Brownie Technique Help

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by Enjoy it, Sep 19, 2014.

  1. Hello everyone,
I recently made a standard (Betty Crocker) batch of brownies with 1 gram of OG Kush, 3 grams of dutch treat, and 3 grams of Blue Dream (flowers). The BD and DT are sativa dominant, of course. However, only 1 brownie (1/16th of the recipe) was intensely narcotic/sedative. I decarbed at 240f for 60 minutes. Then, baked the marijuana in 2/3 cup of coconut oil with 1/4 TSP soy lecithin at 220f for 60 minutes. I stirred in another 1/4 TSP of lecithin after I strained the oil. The brownies were baked at 310f for 35 minutes. Is there anything I can do differently to make the brownies more "sativa-ish" and less "indica-ish"? The BD, when vaped is very stimulating. The dutch treat is more balanced. But, still, the brownies feel like a mix of sleeping pills and pain killers... Not bad. But, not really what I'm looking for.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

  2. See, when you were decarbing, you used a lot of heat for a long time. In doing so, you converted all of your THCA to its active form, THC, at about the 25 minute mark. After that point, your active THC started to degrade into CBN, a cannabinoid with less of a psychoactive effect and more of a sedative effect.

So, if you want a more sativa-like high from your edibles, you should try decarbing at the same temp (maybe even a little bit higher, but not much) for 20 or 25 minutes instead of an hour.

Just remember that lower temps for a longer amount of time makes for some badass sleep/pain meds, which can be really helpful in certain situations.

    Hope I could help.

  3. Thanks for the reply. So, if I were to decarb at 250f for 25 minutes, how long and at what temperature should I use to infuse my oil so that I don't keep breaking down the THC?

  4. I would go with 220 for 45 mins, take out, stir, then put it back in for another 30 or 40 mins.

Make sure you wait for your oil to cool down a bit each time you uncover it for stirring or whatever. That way, you avoid losing any THC that may have been vaporized in your container.

  5. Thanks, Noghri.

  6. I would think cooking it twice like that would still turn it mostly into CBN'S. The THC is already active from the first decarbing method. You might just try to make canaoil on the stovetop instead of all this baking.
