Grow Area Too Small For Led?

  1. Hello blades. I'm interested in doing a 24h x 17x14 cab grow. My only problem is the height 24 inches. I am intent on using LEDs however with only 18+/- inches of space I think leds would be too much. Maybe I am wrong but i can't find much on how close is too close. I will post the specs on the lights I am interested in. Please someone of more knowledge toss me a bone here. I'm hung up on this light deal. Thanks in advance

  3. What is too close depends a bit on the LEDs power and they way it spreads the light.  LED grow lights using a lot of 1 watt LED's will usually send light out over a 180 degree area and you can't really get them too close because the light coming from them just isn't that intense.  Even if it was 45 or 50 watts you could still get the light right up by the plant.  The LED lights that use 3 watt, 5 watt, or 10 watt LED's usually have a more focused area and will spread over 90 degrees or less which can make the light more intense and they will burn your plants if they are too close.   I have a 50 watt lamp that uses 10 5 watt LED's and I can put it about 8" from the plants with absolutely no issue.  My 300 watt LED has to stay at least 2 feet away.
