For starters I am 5'10" approximately 170 pounds (167lbs right now) and at this weight I feel like I have too much belly fat and reserve stores in my body. I eat quite healthy actually however I do indulge on cheeses like sour cream.

Being 170 lbs feels like it is slightly much on my heart, and I feel like it is causing me to be sluggish and pull on my back. Also I am having a strange phenomenon. Right now I currently haven't eaten for 5 hours and my body is not telling me I am hungry, nor is my stomach growling. I feel like my body needs to take time and work through the excess that I have built up, and then I will be full on hungry. I haven't been full on hungry in a very long time, where my body was insatiably telling me eat food, you're hungry. I've kinda been keeping myself topped off at this 170 lb range always semi-full and never dropping to really hungry.

I'm considering fasting for 48 hours or more to see if my body will burn through some excess calories and fat, and to see if I can get my stomach grumbling again instead of eating to stay topped off. Does anyone have any input on my situation?

Edit: I do not very much exercise, maybe 30-50 pushups in a day, stretches daily, light cardio (jumping jacks) for 10 minutes. I don't get out and run as much as I should. I greased up my weight set and now I can do chest pushes so I'll be doing those more.

  2. Right now my body (mind actually, most likely) is wanting me to eat something, but it's not coming from a full fledged stomach grumbling hunger, just a want, desire, or need to stay "topped off". I feel like I have plenty of calories and fat I can burn through before I actually get hungry.

  3. drink m0ar water!

... but seriously probably one of the most overlooked aspects.
get a gallon jug and see how much of it you go through the day. (it should be empty.. gallon a day or close to it).
start your day with a glass of water before anything.

also what really causes hunger (besides munchies) is lack of various nutrients. your body is signaling you that it may need more magnesium.. but what does the brain translate? -- "must eat".

so besides how many calories you are consuming you need to look at the nutritional profile of what you are eating.

a tablespoon of spirulina is by far much more nutrient dense than a burger or a steak. but which one would you go for to "top things off"?

I believe that fasting is essential to health. There are things the body can do while not processing mass quantities of foods and chemicals (if you don't eat organic) that it just can not clean itself of while digesting food.

I fast at least 4 times a year for no less than 10 days. It is truely a key to feeling great. Not while you are doing it if this will be your first time. It will NOT feel good!

When you fast you will be hungry for the first day or so and then you will just get a hunger pain that goes away after a minute or so. When you know it is time to eat again and your body is reset and ready you will become ravenously hungry. Like pounding migraine hungry. Before that as soon as the headache or severe hunger comes on is when you should start to come off of the fast.

If you do a juice fast you will not get this hunger reset notification from your body because you will be getting plenty of nutrients and burning garbage up in your body as well.

I think there you have to talk to a doctor before you do it. Here we just do it cause it is normal and no one goes to the doctor first so I dunno :confused_2:

    @[member="well highdrated"] Excellent post I agree 100%

I don't eat meat usually, I never eat beef. Also, I drink more water than alot of people, atleast I believe. I probably drink close to atleast a half gallon a day. I think I'm going to start now.

I don't think I need to fast for 10 days. Maybe three at most. I'll probably pick up some orange juice so I can get some nutrients from liquid during the days leading up to me feeling hungry again.

  6. Make sure you fast properly.

First day will be soups and juice, THEN you do water fast ZERO sugars juice anything, only water, when ready to end fast, you do soup and juice (avoid all sugars during fast) to get your body ready for solid food again.

Any sugar or proteins during a water fast will waste your time. You will lose weight you will not detox properly.

And eating a heavy meal after a fast is really bad for your body.

  7. I don't know anything about a quick fast? :confused_2:

I know the stages of time are important to help your body detox. I do not believe that it has to be a water detox to work either? I would never do a water detox for 10 days. I would not be able to move if I did

  8. When you're fasting for over a week, do you try to rest as much as possible during that time? Or do you find that you can still do a good amount of activities?

I'm going to fast as long as it takes for me to feel truly hungry again. If I get hit hard with the boredom "hunger" I'll make a small salad to stave me off.

  10. It's really important to get a lot of rest so your body can heal properly and it's not a waste? After doing it for a long time and keeping your body clean you will not have severe symptoms when you do fast. That is what quarterly fasting for detoxing is about, keeping your body running properly.  :)
I never eat during a fast. If I have to break it I do it with broth and I do not go back on it the next day. I transition out and wait at least a month. It's really important to listen to your body but also to follow the guidlines for fasting so you get the beneifits you want ;)

I don't fast for this I fast for detox to reset my body and cleanse. I don't really know anything about this type of fasting?

    I don't know, do you?

If you want to detox read my post above...

The longest I can fast is about 5 days, first and last day is soup day and 3 water days in between.

After the fast, I shit out the nasty crap my body can't get rid of naturally.

I work 6 days a week about 12 hours a day, it is hell. I can barely lift anything and EVERYTHING smells good!

  13.
I don't think I need to detox. Just burn through excess body fat and be able to actually get hungry again.

  14. Then a regular fast would work.

I need to gain weight but do fasts to detox.

  15.
Yep. My fast is 12 hours in the making. However, I was getting extreme boredom hunger (mind-games) so I made a small bowl sized salad with 2 slices of ham and a slice of swiss cheese, which I'm not really feeling too much.

  16. Yeah when I was fasting I was looking at carrots, smelling them and thinking how delicious it smelled.

I did 3 days nothing but water, it was hell but we'll worth it. Save a ton too because your stomach will be the size of a pea lol.

  17. I fast when I sleep for 8 hrs.

Its pretty common to confuse hunger and craving and thirst

This is mostly because of our modern addictive diet habits

I haven't been infatuated with hunger in a long time, like when you so truly hungry that everything tastes freaking amazing and eating is like bliss.

Well I'd like to report that my reduction in eating has lost me 5 pounds in about 4 days. Still not feeling ravenously hungry though, but I haven't completely fasted yet either (light snacking)
