First Time Grow (Need Advice)

depends on how much you want to spend. cfl would be cheaper than MH/HPS but they wont produce as much bud. a good strain for noobs IMO is any of the Northern Lights or any Kush. I like fox farms soil, fox farms tiger bloom for flowering nutes. I don't use nutes during veg cycle unless the plant shows a def.

 

if your not worried about smell just grow it in the corner of your room or something. lights would be problem however but then no need for ventilation. Just keep the window open on a latch??

 Look on youtube man. Plenty videos of DIY growbox (for example, people use old computer cases or make a small box from ply wood. Paint it white or get some reflective shit. Or just save the hassle and grow in an open room. Just make sure you keep the lights close (but not too close to burn then) because you dont want to lose too many lumens

 

if your seriously gonna spend a little more money, your ahead of the game immediately. if you get the right equipment the first time it will be a better all around experience, I tried cutting corners only to have it come back and bite me on the ass, I usally end up buying the right thing anyway. I would go with HID (mh/hps) for two plants 400w mh , or even a 600w closet

 

all the info you need is right here on this site, read the beginner threads. there is some bad info out there also, gotta careful what advice you take, it can be counter productive.

 

you may be surprised how successful a first grow can go. if you read as much as you can and ask questions on this site, the better off you'd be(no shit ha), people on this site are willing to help and answer questions, and they do it very respectfully for the most part . I grew one plant my first grow and got close to 5z's

 

There are a few things to think about before getting started.  You will probably want 2 grow areas: 1 for vegetative growth and 1 for flowering.
The flowering area will smell, is that ok? or if not you will need a carbon filter.  commonly paired with an inline fan, and a light occasionally.  I am using a 2foot High Output T5 fluorescent - 15$ for 4 plants that I have in my vegetative area.  (I plan on getting a 2nd). 
 for the flowering area, you will want a light that needs a ballast(that controls elec flow). U don't know enough about that to pick and choose so I went with a light that is connected to its appropriate ballast.  I got an HPS(high pressure sodium) light that has to be Air cooled because it gets hot, why it needs that ballast. this is a few hundred here. maybe 300. with the reflector hood.  you don't have to go with the air cooled type.  I went with it because I need ventilation into a filter (smell) so filter and fan and light are all connected.
  These are things you want to throw around in your head as you get your grow room "picture".  U spent a lot of time online and HERE at grasscity. 
so the light is gonna be pricy, and if you need a filter that's a 100 or so.  ventilation is imp so knowing how many CFMs for the fan according to how big your space will be. 
 The flowering area (and the veg area) will need to be light tight because cannabis is photoperiodic. 
What system/medium will you be using.  if its a type where u have to make area on the bottom like certain aeroponic/hydroponic systems, factor that in.

yes, greentumb4 12 is correct, it's makes life alot easier. learning things as you grow can lead to a unsuccessful grow.

 

How goes it?!?! have you decided your grow area setup?
