Wiring Cfl Bulbs Safely

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by Rtg456, Sep 16, 2014.

  1. Hello,
    I wanted to be sure if this wiring is safe.
    There is 2 wires going into one connector hole.
    Thank You :)

  2. What's with all the tape. I found it hard to c. You shouldn't need tape over everything if you connections are good. It's ok to put several wires into one connector as long as they are the same potential. Its kind of like having a power board. Active in one side from power company and two actives from lights,fans,ect.... out the other.

  3. Thanks :)
    The tape is there just in case so it won't short out anything.

  4. Jesus Christ, don't plug that in!

    If you need tape on 110v wires that "might" touch each other, then I can assure you that it's done WRONG.

    If you live in the US:

    Green = ground
    White = neutral
    Black = hot

    It looks to me like someone connected green to green (using the connector) and then merged black and white together on both ends of the connector.  This is wrong and you will get hurt  if you plug it in.

    Unfortunately, I don't think any advise above and beyond "DO NOT PLUG THAT IN" would be irresponsible.  I would feel bad if you were hurt or became dead.   Because of that, I will recommend that you find a local electrician to ask for advise about this situation.

  5. Since when do you have to do special wiring for CFL bulbs? Can't you just screw them into a bulb socket and turn it on?

  6. There is ground and hot only, those are socket wires that are going to connector.
    3x blue and 3x brown and extension cord that is plugged in the wall socket.
    The wires wont touch each other, added tape just in case ;)
    Works fine, but im afraid to leave it plugged in when nobody is home.

  7. I just can't tell any thing from that photo. You probably won't listen but I'll try.

    As it is, it looks bad. Might work might blow the circuit. Might work. Might kill you 2 months later. If you need to ask about doing wiring you shouldn't be doing anything more then 12v stuff. Making sure the correct length of exposed conductor is pushed all the way in(gets harder with every extra wire in one terminal). Making sure no wires frayed out the sides. Putting the correct tension on the screw(must be learnt with experience). Not cutting the conductor when stripping the insulator. Not tearing up the conductor when twisting. Properly insulating the whole thing when finished according to environment. Plus lots more stuff. Maybe you should get plugs attached by a pro(will be kind of cheap) and just use plug it stuff.

    Please don't plug it in.

  8. Well, I'll get my friend to wire it.
    Thanks for advice.

  9. Just tell him it's for a pendant light or something. Thank you. It may take long to get done but you(and I) will sleep better knowing you won't burn in a house fire or get shocked when you spill some water or your wet hands and high humidity give you a tingle or a jolt.
