Purple Strain Question

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by TiPWiLL, Sep 16, 2014.

  1. I have looked it up and have gotten mixed answers...

I heard that some purple strains require a cooler temp in bloom to show color. How far into flower and what temp do i need for this. I have seen random answers so im looking for answers from people with PERSONAL EXPERIENCE... not something you read... I have read a lot.

    Thanks in advance gurus

  2. When the temps get cooler, it will turn purp on its own. Usually an indica, I speak from experience, but i am an outdoor grower too.

  3. So for indoors do you know about what temp i can try for w/o killing my plants as well? I wish i could grow outdoors...

    Lucky....

  6. Some strains purple from the leaves. That's usually from a nightime temp in the low 60s or 50s. Some genetically purple from the calyxes which requires no drop in temps to happen.

Sent from my Galaxy Note II. I know you bitchez be jealous.

  7. Thanx, i will try 60s

  8. I've got an ounce of this Purple Urkel that was SUPPOSED to be purple cause thats whats in in genetically, but its super green, like, pine tree green. It definitely smells like a purple strain, that strong sweet smell, but the color is all off. And then theres strains like Grandaddy purp which i've seen green, dark brownish, purple and even like, a greyish color. And then theres shit like blackberry kush which i dont think i've ever seen it without at least little flecks of purple. I've never grown it myself but it always ends up different from different growers which would suggest its all down to the grow conditions. I know some of the less colorful weed i've gotten over the years has been grown outdoors rather than indoors and hydroponically. Sativas tend to have a lot more brilliant colors than indicas. More color can often been better quality because they're dependent on some of the same factors, but i've had some really dull looking indicas that surprise the crap out of me cause they don't look to pack a punch they're pretty strong for how cheap i got them.

Also have you checked out the different tutorials online for different mineral deficiencies? From what i've seen, this oughtta have a pretty substantial effect on the color too.

  9. I have not looked into. I would just want to get pretty colors for bud porn and usually they sell quicker. Anything over 4 oz id try n sell to my friend who sells. I thought we had crazy good bud in NC until i tried it in Cali... Then i realized we cud do better so id like to help out w/better. My hommie that sells said its easier to sell pretty weed. So i want it pretty so people will try it. N be blown away by the home grown i got.

  10. You know I'm a noob, but yeah 60s would prob work. Even if you just google ANY plant or tree that's leaves turn colors from colder nights you could get a good feel for how and why it happens and then apply that to your set up to achieve that.

  11. Good idea! Ill look at other plants and get an idea... 60's is a 10 degree range i kinda want something more specific. Im gonna get an electric air cooler for this. Wont face it on the plants...

my gdp turns dark purple with almost black leaves after a good flush and direct light. It turns purple only where it gets direct light also. At harvest I see green stripes on the stems of leaves where a bud or leaf was blocking the light. My plants never get below 72F or so..it's definitely not from cold....and I always thought it was weird how the light affected it so much too. Also when I trim, my gloves get maroon stains all over them from the buds...that tripped me out the first time.

I think there's alot of different types of purple traits...it can start at the calyx and even in veg the preflower calyx's will be purple(mossy's jem/citralkush/magenta99). Or it can be cold induced. Or with my pheno of GDP, it's flush and light induced.

  13. 63-65 degrees is the range you want to aim for to get purple leaves. Easiest way to do it is to either get a water temp reader or a water cooler/heater and set to the desired temp. It's also important to make sure you feed right before lights go off in order to prevent the heat from the lights from raising temps back up.

Usually if I'm turning a plant purple I'll add another fan to my grow tent (2 fans total) and run them at night. This combined with a cold water feed (63-65 degrees) should give you what you want. As far as timing goes, you want to do this close to harvest to prevent the plant from turning back to green. I do this on my last feeding before I let the plant cannabalize itself. After that feeding just keep the fans on during dark hours and you should be good to go. I have my fans set up on a timer to cut on right when my light timer cuts off.

  16. high! i do a couple of purple strains some phenos do have to be temp induced some do not. mk-ultra is also one of those. but its not just the cold of night but also the heat of the day. fall days are hot and the nights get colder. its the diff that matters a rise of 5deg for day time a 5deg lower at night usually does it for my mks. some strains just taste grapey like the purps temp differance made it look grapey.
