Sun System Trifecta 1000 Watt Hps

  1. Hey guys, here with my first post (longtime lurker), and I have a few questions.

Has anyone used the Sun System Trifecta package? It's super cheap at a cool $200 at my local hydro store which is awesome for a 1000 watt remote ballast, bulb, and reflector.

Here's a link to the package:

I couldn't find a single review anywhere but I know sun system is reliable as I own the 150 watt hps and it works great. I'm just kicking myself for buying it cause it doesn't allow me much room for multiple plants. I have three under it now and it's about maxed out.

I was going to buy a 400 watt but I figure why not spend the same amount for 1000 watts?!

Also since the ballast is remote will heat be a huge issue if I'm growing in a 8x8 space in a basement under stairs?

Sorry for the novel, I appreciate any input guys and gals!

  2. The magnetic ballast kick out a hell of a lot of light. I have several 1,000w er's . They are basicaly all the same there is very little to go wrong with them.

That kit in the 1,000w would be the best bang for the buck. Get some ventilation and you are golden.

  3. Thanks for the advice, yeah In addition to fitting more plants I'm more so excited to get some of those fist sized nugs I see people have with the higher wattages haha.

How is one 1000 watt power wise? The lil 150 I have literally doesn't effect my bill, in fact it went down the months I had it on ! I'd assume maybe $20-30 at most. Worried about drawing unneeded attention. Would be running pumps 24 hrs for a couple DWC buckets as well as fans in addition to 1000 watter to put things in perspective.

  4.
Its costing me right about $80 a month running  2,000 watts with fans and air pumps on 13 5 gallon hydro tubs.

My lights cost me about $1+ a day for a 1,000w. Real cheap.

Fat buds? Oh shit they get fat, I gauge harvest time getting close when the plant cant hold itself up. :)

Snoop has some damn cheap electricity.  Yours could be different.  Mine is pretty cheap too.  On my bill it says 7.7 cents per Kwh, and it goes up to 9.1 cents if I use over my allowance.  With only 1000 watts + my ventilation I still stay at the 7.7 cent range.  Here is how I break down my math...

assuming you are using them (1,000watters) in flower on a 12/12 schedule...

    12hrs X 30days = 360kwh      360kwh X 7.7cents = $27.72 p/month.  For a single 1,000 watt light 12 hours a day.

In terms of lacking room for more plants, I am assuming this is because your reflector is small... therefore you lack spread.  Well, how about not using the entire 8x8 area... leave some walking room around your plants, and keep them tied down and low.  Where you lack spread, the intensity of the light is greater and you can produce the same yield in a smaller space as you would with a bigger spread.  You also have the option of getting a different hood off craigslist if you really want more spread, but keep in mind, more spread lessens intensity, and to really get that spread you have to raise your lights anyways.

These are the thoughts of someone with only 3 indoor grows with only 1/2 a grow using a 1,000 watter.
