Here is a picture of my first plant, I'm not trying for anything fancy it's just a trial run and I'm curious, is the stalk too thin or is this normal?  Hopefully down the line I can advance in my grow set up but if someone could just answer this question for me right now me and Luigi would really appreciate it.  Thanks!!

  2. Looks ok. Let it grow.

  3. It appears that your light source may be too far away. Under a good light source (CFL's, T5 Flourescent, or HID, you should have a set of leaves every 2 or 3 inches starting 2 or 3 inches above the soil. What kind of lights are you using?

  4.
    ^^^ What he said.

  5. most definetly stretching for the light. Either lower your lights or Raise the plants ( I use books, shoe boxes, anything i can find)

  6. Ok, please excuse any "blasphemous" actions I may commit I'm a super novice at this... I've just been using natural sun light, leaving the plant in my window sill all day which faces East and gets sunlight at least 8 hours a day.  I don't have the funds currently to set up a full grow but that's in planning stage, I'm just going natural with this one...

Thus the reason I came here, to learn new things.  You say it is reaching for the light source... if the light source is the sun coming thru my window what would be a proper way to fix this???

  7. you have to get alot of shoeboxes and put the plant on them so the plant will be closer to the sun.

  8.
More light will always help. Big lights = big buds.  It needs more sun if you can put it in a better place.

  9. Lock down the environment b4 hoping to grow anything worthwhile.

  10.
Thanks so much, how often should I water the plant?  Daily?  Every other day?  what about using a spray water bottle that shoots mist

  11.
depends on the weather, several times a day if its hot as hell and every few days when its not hot.

A plant that size I tell new growers to use a shot glass to water. If the pot is heavy wait for it to get somewhat dry before watering.

Roots need air, thats how we get away with growing in water doing hydro is we pump the water full of air with air pumps.

  12.
To start a basic small hydroponic system (4-6 plants) what are some basics you would say I should have to start with (just price and space needed) please?

  13. Im thinking of switching to hydro... My plants grow like wild flower in soil id have beasts in hydro... You goin to do a journal??

A blunt a day keeps the doctors away!

  14. I've thought of Hydro but it's not as forgiving. ive heard one mistake and you could lose your whole crop. Where as coco/soil is a bit more forgiving :)

  15.  Also dude, Id recommend buying even an 85w 6500k CFL. Cost me £15 so i dont know how much in $$$. The one CFL gives out 5500 Lumens, which I think is gonna be better than normal sunlight. Especially if it's stretching this much.

That's awesome! There's a demented dr. Seuss story somewhere in here

  17. I think if the plant keeps stretching this much, it's gonna end up a problem. Cause the weight will become too much for that thin stalk, It'll just keep falling down

Its exactly the apposite of that, hydro you can fix a problem in 5 minutes, in soil you fuck up and have to flush and nurse a drowning plant for 2 weeks with no idea whats wrong with a plant till its too late.

There is nothing to go wrong if the PH is right and the solution is not too strong, water it down if it is. I can also completely replace the solution to a known specification, you cant just fix a soil problem that simple.

Soil is much more difficult and expensive.

I want to throw dirt clods at people who say hydro is tricky. :)
