Help With Taking Bud Shots

  1. Hi Stoners!

I'm seeking advice on what type of camera I should purchase to take close up snaps of buds.

Any photographers on here that can advise me would be appreciated :)

    Thanks

  2. iphone camera works pretty well if you know how to use it, u just got to fuck with it for alittle then taking decent shots gets easy, theres an app that alows you to have the light on while taking a picture and it helps alot when taking close shots, but i guess u can buy a expensive camera as well

  3. All though what I am saying is all my opinion, I am studying photography full time and working as a photographer when I can, so hear me out with what I have to say:

As for what the above poster said, the iPhone won't really help with taking a decent shot. The camera can only focus when you are at a certain distance, anything close and it will not focus well. IF you do want to use an iPhone, avoid the shitty flash at all costs, just use as many lights as you can (ceiling light, desk lamp, etc, the more light the better), but NOT the iPhone flash it create a harsh burnt out light that will ruin the image. The size of the iPhone's camera sensor can only do so much, the close your subject, the lesser the quality of the image.

Don't go to get an expensive camera just for bud shots, because you will find even more issues, mainly being equipment and cost. If you are really serious about it, then I guess its you money but to get images like this:

    You will need:
    a dSLR with interchangeable lenses
a MACRO lens (a lens that is designed to take super close up shots of a subject) here is an example of a "decent" macro lens: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/806372-REG/Sigma_258110_105mm_f_2_8_EX_DG.html

The dSLR is not really a huge issue, you can get a good one for only a few hundred $$$. However, a good macro lens (cheap ones are rubbish and produce sub-par images) can go for upwards of $1000. As I said before, it is your money, but if you want to invest in a good camera for bud shots, make sure you buy the right stuff so you can use it for other photo-taking opportunities as well.

  8. A good option and a lot cheaper than a dslr with a macro lens is this.

    http://www.amazon.com/Pentax-WG-3-orange-Waterproof-Digital/dp/B00B728M7S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1412138829&sr=8-3&keywords=pentax+optio+wg-4

It has 6 leds surrounding the lens so you get even lighting, its waterproof and shock proof (Read about these things before just doing it). It has an excellent macro mode, I have been thinking about getting one for a while now as an "action/hiking/don't want to lug my 30+ lbs of photo gear everywhere" camera.
