I'm doing my first grow ever! I'm using Feminized White Widow seeds from bcseedking.com (excellent site, totally legit, they sent me 18 seeds when I bought 10).

I'm using a homemade Ebb & Flow system, and I'm using General Hydroponics Fora series nutrients. I've got a HM Digital 80 pH meter, and a HM Digital TDS-4 without the thermometer. Of course I've got all my calibration solutions, and GH pH adjustment fluids for my res.

I'm currently using a 2x4x4 grow tent with a VenTec 6 inch inline fan carbon filter set. My lighting is a DIY CFL system using (6) 23 watt Daylight CFLs, and (6) 26 watt Warm White CFLs.

I do have some MUCH better equipment already on its way, so stay tuned for pics!

  2. Here you can see my current setup. The light was raised so you could see everything better.

Here's my DIY lights hanging above the plants.

Here's the seedling on the left. Some of the leaves are yellowing and drying out in some spots. Does anyone know what's wrong?

Here's the seedling on the right. It was actually planted about a week after the one on the left, but it seems to be much healthier. The lesson here is that it might be best to germ right in your grow medium.

  3. Did u soak the rockwool in 5.5 ph water? Are you currently feeding the seedlings nutrients? I am also growing white widow, my first grow. I'm about 2 weeks from harvest. Check out my threadmy white widow grow

  4. Check my plant out bitch is huge!

  5. Yeah, I PH balanced the rockwool and I'm feeding for 10 minutes every 8 hours in ebb and flow. I had 200ppm nutrients and several members said it was nute burn so I lowered that to about 110ppm.

  6. Your setup looks solid bro, one question, where are you venting? And is that fan on a speed controller? I ask this because I have a smaller fan and tent, and I battled high temps for a bit. My res temp suffered because of it, and so did my seedlings.

  7. I'm venting back into the room because venting outside would actually do more harm than good.

and thanks for the compliments on my setup, but there's much better stuff to come!

  8. I cleaned with my res with bleach yesterday, and refilled with 7 gallons of RO water (pH balanced) and 150mL of regular Hydrogen Peroxide. The peroxide and fresh water is working magic on my plants! The roots have grown more in the last day than I think they have since I planted the seeds! I'm not gonna rely on peroxide, but it's a nice thing to have on hand!

I will post some new pics tomorrow, and lots on Wednesday!

Well, I spent some time today preparing my power wiring for my new equipment tomorrow! I ran a 20 amp breaker, so I should have no power worries! I don't think I'm gonna get to upload any pictures today, but I promise I'll make up for it either tomorrow or Thursday!

  10. Subbed can't wait to see what u got !

IT IS WHAT IT IS !

  11. I'm about to set up my light controller using a normal wall timer and a hard wired Contactor (relay). Does the forum already have a tutorial for that? Because if we don't, I can certainly make a tutorial!

  12. I got my HPS and new tent set up! And I planted 2 new seeds in GH Rapid Rooters so if everything goes good I'll have 4 plants and if not, I should at least have these 2 new ones.

Pictures will be posted tomorrow! (I actually mean it this time!)

Next to a normal 23 watt CFL. This bulb is freaking huge!

  15. I could be wrong about this, but it looks like too much light in there. By a long shot too.
Your seedlings don't want direct intense light yet, and they appear to be showing signs of that too.
If i'm seeing this right, it looks like your thousand watt bulb is right above the seedlings you're trying to save. that is way too much light. keep them on one cfl for the seedlings and 2 to three for the small plants, keep them a distance away and if you notice stretching, move the light closer. wait until flowering to turn on your 1000w hps, and always keep it far enough away. Or if you insist on running the 1000w, grab yourself a Metal Halide bulb.
edit: I just noticed your ballast is adjustable, I would grab a 400w MH bulb, they're much cheaper and unless you have hundreds of seedlings there is no reason to start them off under a 1000w, save in energy bills, and not worry about temps as much.
it is my first time growing ebb and flow, but I have done soil many times. I just finished my last from seed batch. No humidity dome and never more than 3 cfl's until they were decently tall. I then put them under a 600w replacement LED light for final veg stage and flowering. the cfl setup you have looks like a great mid veg or flowering setup, but too much for germination and early veg.
Hope that helps at all. Happy growing!!!

Yeah it's under a 1000w HPS bulb, but it's down at 400w. I have to run a 1000w bulb, because the ballast sparks the lamp at full wattage, so it would explode a 400w bulb. But I am running my 1k at only 400w.

So what you're saying is I should put my 2 seedlings in under the CFL's with the seeds, and unscrew a couple more CFL's?

  17. Well I decided I'm gonna make Hempy Buckets instead of using Ebb & Flow. Will post pics of building the buckets! And the roots on the 2 seedlings are finally poking through the rockwool cubes, so I'm getting excited!

I got my 4 Hempy Buckets made today!

Drilled a 1/2" hole where 1 gallon of water sits. This means that the bucket holds 1 gallon of water and any extra water flows out the hole.
    100_2529.JPG

Add chunky perlite up to the level of the hole. I used Growstones instead. Then rinse it to get the dust out.
    100_2531.JPG

And add in the growing media. I used Coco Coir with a little Perlite and Growstones mixed in. Again, rinse to get the dust and dirt out. This time, run lots of water until the water coming out the overflow hole is almost clear.

My seedlings aren't quite ready for these yet, but I will be sure to show you guys when they are!

Speaking of the seedlings, here they are!
    100_2535.JPG

One of the 2 new seeds I planted a few days ago already has a long tap root coming out the bottom, and it's got the little hairs branching off the tap root! Rapid rooters are amazing! I will never touch rockwool again

  19. yes, precisely.
the yellowing of the leaves looks like it is using up chloroplasts faster than it can generate new ones with the root system at hand. usually it shows on the top of the plant, but since the old leaves are still relatively new is why a possible over light problem could be showing on lower leaves. I would move the lights far away from the recovering plants because plants can easily survive under lighting. then if it's not that. Flush out the rockwool cubes and give them some very mild nutes. sorry I took awhile responding, I wanted to get my grow journal online first. Check out my early veg setup. in a few day to a week I might move the light closer then in 1.5 weeks I'm upping the bulb count If all goes similar to my soil experiences. I'm going to add the links to my sig

    Happy growing!!!

  20. I finally got all my materials to make my SCROG screen. So ideally, how wide should the spaces between the mesh be? I've read 2x2 inches is good?
