Question About Changing Colors When Applicable

Discussion in 'Advanced Growing Techniques' started by TACOTHEKILLER, Sep 11, 2014.

  1. i have a question, im growing my first autoflower on my first indoor grow but i am a extremely experienced grower.

    first here is the info
im growing a berry bomb auto strain
i know this strand is famous for its bright blue color when put into the correct temp at night during the flowering phase
so my question is for someone who has the means to do so, what kind of temperature change am i looking to accomplish to get this blue color?
i grow for quality and although this is personal bud. i like to smoke the best
i really want to accomplish this blue color to the fullest possible
so anyone have any advice to a newb indoor grower( not saying im not educated just saying its just the first time in 12 years ive decided to do it)

all advice is welcome thank you!

Its pretty easy to get some colour in your plants, simply start growing in winter or plan it so they will finish around a month into winter (depending on how cold your winters are, here its around 10degrees at that time). Or i suppose you could turn the ac on? Get it down to around 15-18 degrees celcius for a few days or more and the colour will start coming out.

Edit- I have purpling in a GSC thin mint im growing cause i started in winter, mainly on the lower nugs as they dont get as much heat from the lights.

  3. Well see I grow all kinds of things so I have a room for certain winter peppers and stuff that gears down to about 30*fer.
So I can simulate very cold winter nights, what phase should I start exposing it to the cold nights

  5. The correct temp is in the 60-80 degree Fahrenheit for purpling blueing any genetic coloring. Keep in this range closer to 60 the more color but less growth 70 seems perfect

  6. Awesome thanks. Any idea when I should start exposing to this night time cold. It's an auto , so I'm assuming maybe around week 7 or 8

  7. Anytime during flowering, but will work best when the plants start budding around weeks 4-7.

  8. Sweet thanks bro!
Any General knowledge about autos would be accepted as well, I love learning new things

  9. Coloring of blues and purples come from around a 10-15 degree temp change at night. I have a stand alone ac in my flower room and I rotate my plants so that the one finishing is closest to the ac for the last couple weeks. Always puts at least a little purp into my buds. I have some purple Pineapple Express drying right now that smells amazing.

I will say that I know if one down turn for color, that is what is actually happening in the plant. There are more than just the green pigment we know as chlorophyl working in these plants to make food. That one is green but others are blue, purp. These low temps are killing off chlorophyl and leaving behind the other ones to do its work, possibly leaving less food for the plant. But people like novelty.

  10. try and maintain temps in the 65 - 75 range 24/7 and your plants will love you!

  11. Yeah I try to keep it their but I can't get a good reading in my grow room it always fluctuates so randomly but I have a massive 2 foot fan sitting right on them

  15. Sorry bout the late reply i've been exhausted from work, heres the pics. They arent completely purple because it was unintentional this time around. Not the best photos either sorry, plus the really purple buds i cut already to help the tops grow.

  17. Color should come from genetics not anything you do. I grew some dakr devil and it came out more purple than I've ever seen bud before and I didn't fuck with anything to make it that way.

  18. Don't feel bad if it does. My seed just died on me . at least I believe it did. It cracked and never grew a root. So I planted it with high hopes sprout.

    3rd seed from

It differs per plant though man. If you study why cannabis changes colors. It has to do with temper change causing a reaction that actually makes the plant have to react to the change which causes certain coloration. Some strains such as purp are already have a genetic mutation that causes this reaction naturally.

  19. In my personal experience id say its down to temperature AND genetics but more so genetics. In my current grow i have critcal cheese and berry bomb (both are autos). The berry bomb doesn't have a single bit of purple on it but most of the cheese's leaves around the buds are starting to turn really purple. My temps drop to about 10-15 degrees at night in the grow space. I think i must have gotten a non purple phenotype of the berry bomb and some crazy mixed genetics from the critical cheese.

Link to my grow journal at the bottom of this comment if anyone wants to see for themselves
