Advice On Outdoor Buds, First Frost In Approximately 35 Days

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by GloriousZOMBiE, Sep 10, 2014.

  1. It's been about 12-15 or so days since I last checked on my plants, last time I checked it was literally just growing buds, the buds were just about non existent, but tons of pistils where popping out everywhere, How much should it have grown, should buds be visible? /and will it be mature enough in 35 more days, if it's not mature enough what should I do, Iv heard letting it frost on immature plants to mature it enough. Is this true please help from experienced growers, I'll post up pics of the plant tommorow but if I don't I will Saturday so everyone has a better clue what I'm workin with.

  2. I cover mine during a frost, you dont want bud rot.:(

As for being mature enough in 35 more days, that's impossible to answer without knowledge of the strain. Some strains finish in 6-8 weeks of flowering. Some can take 12 weeks+. Regardless, ~50 days is a little early for even a quick finisher, unfortunately.

Are you able to cover them when the frost starts? Or will that make them too conspicuous? If it were me I would cover them at the first signs of frost moving in and let them finish.

  4. the shitty part is the walk out there to get to the plant. Covering them isn't to conspicuous because they are very well hidden. So how many nights would I have to cover them, and just covering them up keeps them from frosting, also I heard letting it frost a few times on the plant will mature immature buds, and also the strain is unknown, but it appears to be an indica sativa hybrid

Also it showed it's preflowers like over a month ago, is that considered "flowering" also the plants already like over 2 months old and it sucks if it doesn't flower on time, I may just let it frost on the buds a few times or I might let them finish depending on how long it takes, but it would suck to walk 40 minutes every night to bag it up and then get up before sun rise to uncover them

Wow yeah that'd be a PITA to do every day. Just to make sure we're on the same page, you mean the preflower calyx/pistils that emerge at each node when the plant is sexually mature, correct? Those don't count as flowering, they just means she's mature enough to flower. But outdoors flowers are never far behind. If you're talking pistils coming out the tops then yes, that's the start of flowering.

I have no idea on letting them frost to help them mature but it might makes sense when you consider there are plenty of other plants that REQUIRE so many hours of frost-temperatures or they won't mature. If you are going to go that route my only advice would be to do it earlier rather than later when the buds have swollen. Somebody else might be more help to you there.

Once your buds have trichs with heads you can technically harvest. I've been forced to harvest well before they were ready in the past. You get a racy high that doesn't last long. Let em go as long as the weather permits and hopefully you got a strain with a shorter flowering time. Or build yourself a shelter and camp out with your girl til she's ready to be cut

  7. yes it pre flowered long ago, but hairs just started coming out of the tops the last time a checked me, and last time I checked them they stunk like skunk, especially if you touched the plant you could just smell dank on your fingers. I don't think I'm going to walk 40 mins every night and morning to uncover them, I think if it's covered in trichomes I'm gonna just let it frost on them once or twice and cut them down and go with the flow, it's my first grow and as I read from tons of people on here they said be happy to get anything from a first grow, but I'm thinking next time it grow I'm going to start early and have better genetics to start, so I can have a fully ripe plant that is at it's most resin production and highest yield.

  8. yea your lucky you can bring your ladies indoors to finish them. I hope they mature up enough atleast in 35 days or less or hopefully more

  9. Plant did a 360, yield estimate? and has like 9 branches. And tints of purple in the buds and on leaves. If you look the buds are frosty, I just added fertilizer and I low stress trained/super cropped it and topped it early but it really blew up when I low stress trained it and gave it more nutes, so is this gonna be some dank or what lol

yes, I'm like week 3 flower of unknown bag seed that's indica dominant, should it be finished in about 4 weeks? if it's not finished before the first frost could I go get it and set in a dark period for 48-60 hours Iv heard this matures the plant,? Also where are you from, I'm from Pennsylvania and I think mine began flowering end of August. And is an ounce possible from this, it has like 5 main big buds and the rest are smaller branches

  11. Time matures the plant not dark. Dark can bring out certain qualities but maturing is not one of them. Frost kills don't let frost hit your plants. The "cold" has been known to make the plant realize its life is about done and pushes out some extra to try and ensure it continues its circle of life. When frost comes cover em every night or suffer.

    Best of luck.

  12. I heard near the end of a plants life that growers will put them in a dark period because it ripens the plants amber trichomes. Also it won't frost for 4 more weeks, is that enough time for this indica

Correct, placing in dark with a fan for 24 to 48 hours will bring out certain features, just didn't want you thinking it will mature your plant for you. If it isn't mature the dark won't speed it's maturing process. I actually did a neat little experiment where I took 3 clones of the same white widow, I harvested 1 regularly with like 80% cloudy trichs, the second clone of the same plant I gave it a 24 hour dark period then harvested, trichs were like 95% cloudy/amber in just 24 hours. The 3rd clone of the same plant I gave one week darkness..... dont do this unless you want your weed to taste .... just gonna say shitty, it has good qualities, but just some very strange pungent taste that the other 2 clones of the same plant dont have. However I did not do any of this prematurely, the clones were fully matured before light deprivation.

  15. yea I'm expecting frost the first 2 weeks of October, I'm hoping I can push em to the 15th, do you think 7 weeks is enough for an indica dominant? And yes it's a 5 gallon bucket with holes drilled in it

  16. so what your saying after they sat In a dark period more cloudy trichs appeared? I thought Amber ones appeared after placing them in the dark, I'm trying for about 75% cloudy and 25 amber for a nice all around high, not to couch lock but not a speedy high. And will they be ready in 4 weeks considering I'm 3 weeks along in flower, and i plan on going out the night of the first frost and bringing them home and putting them in the dark in my basement that's like 50-60 degrees
