My Growroom Plan

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by sollywood, Sep 10, 2014.

  1. So I'm a total newb, but I've been immersing myself in marijuana related topics for more than a couple of months now.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

    Space: 25"x20"x50" cabinet/closet
    Walls painted white all around.
Lighting: T-5 4 light hanging fixture, 4x 6400w for veg and 4x 3400w for flower. I'll also have 4x 40w cfls 5000K lining the floor of the space for veg and 4x 28w cfls 3500k for flowering.
Ventilation: cheap bathroom fan around 80 cfm pulling air out, and around 25 quarter size holes on the bottom of the grow space to pull air back in. I'll have an air purifier below the space so my babies are getting the best quality air.
    Air flow: 6" desk fan

I've read that the setup is 80% of the battle, and the strain/mediums/soil/nutes are the other 20%.

Any extra help or input would be great!

  2. It sounds like you have a nice plan for a simple grow space, which should give you a great place to learn and experiment in.

The "battle" is in learning the process.  Different techniques work for different people, for different reasons.   You'll learn this for yourself by growing and experimenting.  You'll screw up, spend too much money, do things wrong, do things right.. .eventually, you'll be able to grow consistently.  It's not at all hard or difficult to do, once you know how, but learning the "know-how" just takes time and a readiness to read and study on the subject.

I would suggest learning more about Hempy buckets, as an introductory to growing hydroponics, and Lucas Formula, for your nutrient needs.   These two methods will save you a LOT of time and money, with a no-nonsense approach to learning how to grow.  Aside from that, I would say don't skimp on purchasing a pH/PPM meter, and just keep reading.

    Cheers,
    Past

  3. Original Past gave some good info, dont skip the meters. I've seen guys spend 20k on a setup and try to pH with drops, having a meter and calibrating solution is a must

I would look at hempy buckets, or coco to start off with. The lukas formula will take a lot of guess work out. And you won't be getting much deficiencies with it. Check out bongsauces thread in the micro section, lots of info there

  4. DazedAndStoned is spot on, growing in coco is awesome, by the way!    I like to mix mine with about 20-30% perlite, too!

  5. Thanks for all the help guys!

I've actually been researching more and decided to go with Bush Doctor's Coco Loco by Fox Farms. The stuff seems pretty kickass.

I drove an hour to get it from a hydro store, and purchased my t5 light as well.

I also purchased floragrow, bloom, and micro. I bought a meter which is okay, but I've been testing ph with drops solution from ph up/down.

The bagseeds are pretty terrible and are growing at such a slow rate, next will I'm going to order some autoflowers from herbies to get my official grow off the ground.

Sorry about the crappy picture quality. uploadfromtaptalk1410988074242.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1410988090529.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1410988101961.jpg

  6. What's up man. Is there a reason you wanted to go with coco loco? I love it, and am going to use it as base to my organic grow next run but it is organic and you are running bottle fed nutes. Another good nute is the CNS17 line. It's meant for coco so you don't have as many cal/mag deficiencies. Which reminds me, you should def get cal/mag and possibly Protekt.

  7. How's it going?

I had been reading over and reviewing possible candidates for the medium I was going to grow with. I eventually decided that coco seems like like a good starting point in hydro. I, however, didn't want to go through all the trouble of mixing up my own medium to use. Coco Loco seemed to have everything I wanted out of my medium mixture already included, so it was a no brainer for me. Plus, I have yet to read any negative reviews or comments regarding it, and have seen beautiful high yields from people online who use it.

At first I really wanted to go all organic, but I decided that I might as well give my plants the best of both worlds. Plus, I'm more than likely going to start my first official grow either using the Lucas formula or simply going with the Flora feeding chart. Both seem to get phenomenal results.

Cal/mag is actually on my shopping list for next week. I've been reading about the deficiencies problem coco had and I believe one of my plants is either nute burned or needs some cal/mag.

I'll check out CNS17 when I check out the hydro store next week as well as Protekt. Thanks for the feedback!

This little guy is my pride and joy at the moment. 23 days old today. Looks green and healthy. Responding well to nutes and soil.

My other baby. 23 days old, and hasn't responded well to nutes. Broke some root growth while transplanting and she just hasn't been the same since. :(

  8. Awesome! Like I said, I love coco loco and think it's great just curious about using it with nutes. You shouldn't have to feed for awhile as the loco will give the plant it's nutrients for the first few weeks of veg.

  9. I'm curious as well, which is the biggest reason I wanted to experiment with both of them and see what kind of yield I'm going to have on my first real grow.

Thanks for the advice. I admit, I do feel a little dumb about giving them nutes so early in their life cycle, but growing seems to be all about trial and error.

That's where that ppm tester comes in handy.
Some ppl feed their sprouts, some use tap water for the first month. strain is another factor of this. some will eat just about all you can toss in it. others dont want many nutes.
going bag seed. helps to know what you have so you can look it up. what works best.

So far I feed them till they burn a lil bit, then back off some. some ppl try to get a target ppm. some ppl just do what the bottle says to do.

I'm using Hydroponic research's veg+bloom. seems to have everything needed already in it. KISS

on the plus side, you now know to be careful with the roots. lol

  11. Going to look into a PPM tester soon but my bag seed seems to be doing fine with whatever I throw at them. Very healthy, going into bloom sometime this week.

I am getting them the GH schedule as directed and am getting awesome results under the T5.
