My First Grow (White Widow)

  1. That tent looks nice and large but it does seem like $500 is pricey. Veg tents don't need to be nearly as light proof you could definitely go cheaper, like way cheaper. They sell them online for like $100-300 is a decent one. You live in the part of Canada where everybody grows or the up tight part? I live in maine so it's medical legal here I don't worry about getting things shipped to me. Check out amazon, other online sources. I spent the same cash you did to setup two grow areas. That damn tent cost being a major part of it.

See I think I'd want to put a carbon filter in the veg tent if only because the sheer number of them will become stinky. I had 10 plants in my tent about 2 weeks ago and my house was stinky. I'd walk in the door, and you could smell it. So I think eventually down the road I'd want one in the veg room, if anything just to keep things nice and stealth.
I am going to keep the clones in the closet with the T5's and I think I will also set up that other jumbo CFL in there as well, just for good measure. I don't have any panda film up in there yet so I would like to put out as much light as I can until I do.

Its nice that you support your wife, thats very sweet that you take care of her like that. Lucky Lady :)
My guy actually used to be my dealer :) We spent the first 5 years of our relationship just utterly stoned, lots of toys and gadgets. Then he just kinda stopped smoking, he said it didn't do anything for him anymore. Then he stopped selling, for a few reasons. I still kept smoking, and he was cool with it until he wanted to quit smoking cigarettes. I told him I'd support him, which means quitting cigarettes and weed. So I did....it was nearly a year after that I started smoking pot again, he wasn't super happy about it but he came around. Especially when certain things I used to do started happening for him again, then he was like "Oh yeah I remember this I liked this" so he let me start buying pot again, it wasn't like he could stop me anyway. lol
I think he would like to smoke again, but he can't because of his job, so there is this sort of jealousy angle to it as well I think. He has said on more then one occasion that he wants this to turn out because when he can smoke again he wants to be able to smoke some of the best. The first thing he does when he gets home besides strip naked is go check on the plants, he is really into it. I'm pretty lucky he didn't swing the other way on it :smoke:

Yeah I live in the part of Canada where things tend to be a bit expensive, they like to take advantage of the fact that the people here make money. Its also what I would consider uptight, you don't really go around advertising this sort of stuff. In certain circles it's okay, but I mostly keep a low profile just to be safe.
I could of bought a similar tent for half the price, but I wanted this one. It had the best reviews, it can hold over 150 pounds of equipment safely, its 100% light-tight and it is made of material to help distribute the heat so it doesn't show up clearly on those heat-scanning radar things that the cops in helicopters use. It opens up all the way around and has a lot of windows and options on how you can set it up, I just love it. He said I could have it, so I bought it. Some girls like fancy purses or shoes, I like pot and pot related accessories.

  4. Yeah your husband is a keeper for sure.  Does he have a sister. lol.  Very cool story about how you 2 met!  My ex wife wasn't exactly tolerant of my growing, so I took it exclusively outside for a few years.  Not getting any younger and sneaking around in the woods at night just doesn't fit into my schedule anymore.

That's not a bad percentage for a first time cloner, I'm guessing the ones that were less than an inch of stem were the ones that didn't take.  Every strain is different too.

If you can afford the best, why not?  I also live in a part of the US where the incomes are high, and that is reflected in the price of living.  I'm an organic grower for a few reasons, but the first thing that got me into it was the lack of grow stores in my area.  The ones that are around aren't the kind of place a paranoid grower wants to be seen at.  From what I understand the Canadian govt is much more liberal on this topic and that's a very good thing for you.  Years ago police actually staked out these stores and ran the plates of customers.  If you had any previous marijuana busts they investigated you.  Land of the free huh?

What happened to the Canadian seed trade?  10 years ago it was the place for us to get seeds without going through the dutch.  When Emery got busted did most of the seed companies fold?  I remember Toronto was one of the hotspots for Americans to drive across the border and grab some quality seeds.

Good luck with the flip, I'll be watching eagerly.

  5.
Yeah he is a keeper, we get along very well. I like to think we can compromise on just about anything, I don't think I'd ever have to resort to skulking around in the bushes at night to try and grow some weed lol thats pretty harsh. But I get it though, quite a few of his friends are in the same scenario as you were. And I'm sure they will probably all have ex wives eventually as well :)
The policy in this province is sort of a middle ground compared to the others. In some places, you can pretty much just buy it from underground stores and the cops know and don't care. It's bordering legal....and in other provinces, they love busting stoners because we are easy/non violent to deal with and we usually are productive people so we have money to pay those fines they load you up with. They won't put you in jail, but they'll rape you financially. Here, there is enough for the police to do without worrying about potheads, but when that time of the month rolls around and they have to make their quotas they start becoming more strict about things.

As for the seed trade, I am unsure what happened, I think it scared some people away when Marc got sent to your side for jail because a lot of people honestly thought our government wouldn't let that happen. However I live here and not where you live, so I don't really notice a problem getting seeds. Granted I am a new grower and haven't really been looking or anything but there are quite a few companies I can get seeds from. I could go and buy from stores intown actually and its legal, I just prefer to order mine for quality purposes. Theres the Canadian Seed Bank, the Vancouver Seed Bank, BC Seed King, I know there is at least a good 4 or 5 others I just don't remember their names off the top of my head, I have had experience with the first two I listed and the last one my friend uses. No problems at all, if anything it just takes awhile to get it sometimes because our postal system is a bit problematic.

Anywho, back to the topic at hand, last night I switched them to 12/12 and put in the HPS bulb. It's striking how yellow the light is, my husband thought something was wrong with the bulb lol
I don't know if there is a way to fix it so that the pictures don't look yellow, but here it is:
    orangy.jpg orangy2.jpg

And this is where my temporary cloning area is, the bubble cloners are all set up and rumbling away, and the remaining 5 that I didn't have room for just get a misting every now and then. I set up the other CFL bulb I had lying around just for kicks, and I am going to buy something to lower that big light so that its closer to the plants, that will be easier then me trying to find ways to raise them up. Its like, junk jenga. OH, lets put this catpost here and then a pillow on it and a shopping basket and ta-da instant table lol not practical.

Well I am off to study I have 4 tests this week, hopefully I can survive the week.....

  6. There is really no way to fix pictures with hps light on. I use a photo editor to tone color down but even then it's not right you know. Also the higher your carbon filter fan combo the better it will help you control temps. Get hubby to figure out how to mount that to tent roof after this cycle. Cold air in low hot air out from high up. Oscillating fan low and one at canopy level to shake them leaves. Mj uses co2 fast so the more you can move the air around the plant the better off you are. I only comment because I don't see fans moving air in your picture, maybe they are just out of view. Fans also help early on to strength stems. Make sure with clones to open vent or take too off of then from time to time to allow them some fresh co2.

  7.
Hmm well I guess I will just have to settle for overly-sunny looking photos of my plants. There are worse things :)
I will have to find a way to mount that carbon filter up top, I know what your saying, if anything because I will need that space it takes up at the bottom. Plus for heat control....For right now though, we regulate the temperature in the room that the tent is in, and that keeps the tent in check.
You can't see it in the photos, but I have an 8" fan in the bottom port that sucks the air from the room and blows it into the tent, it also serves to blow air around under the plants as well. Then I have a large 28" fan mounted in the top right corner that serves to create air circulation and blows the top leaves around. I'm sure eventually I am going to purchase another 8" fan to go on the bottom of the tent to help keep humidity in check, but for now I do not need it.
I burp the clones twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. I also have an air pump blowing air into the bucket as well, so I feel like the circulation should be pretty good.
I went and purchased some straps to lower the larger light, and I bought another air-pump so I can double up on a few of those buckets and create some more air circulation, two of them have some root rot happening and I guess a solution to that is more air.

Its been awhile since I have update, some things have happened since....
I pulled a boner and over watered my Haze. I put too much water in her bucket, and it over-saturated the medium, and it choked the plant out. I moved her to a dry bucket to sort of let it drain, and I waited 2 days to see if she'd come back but she just pretty much hit the ground. I did the only thing I could think of to save her, and I pulled her out of her medium and shook everything off of the roots that I could and put her back into a new pot with dry perlite. My hope was it would absorb the moisture from the perlite that was stuck all in the rootball. After another few days of waiting, she bounced back. I had to trim off the old stuff to sort of get her looking presentable again, but she's not dead. I put her in the closet with the clones so she could recoup and maybe join them in the future when the clones are big enough.

The other girls are all doing well, I changed their water and cleaned it out today and everything looked a-okay. The one plant, LuLu, is getting to be quite bushy and big compared to the others, I think she is my favourite.
    lulumyfav.jpg mahgirls.jpg start.jpg
After lights out I gave them a shot of Dr Doom to get rid of these tiny little green bugs I see on them every now and then, I more just want to get rid of them before the buds start forming. Nobody needs that.....

Not much else to report, just mostly school and studying and tests. yay.

  9. Decent setup and nice healthy plants, what more can i say.
This is just stunning for a first time grower, good luck.

  10.

    Thank you very much :)

All I can say I do is stick to a schedule and double-check information before I make a move. I try not to beat myself up over mistakes, and sometimes I make moves that I've been told not to make because I feel like my gut says to do it.

If I end up with good smoke, like what I remember having as a teen, I will be sssoooooo happy and all this school stress will be a drop in the bucket of life  :smoking:

  11. You talked about Lulu being your favorite bushy plant. I had one that I thought was my favorite. It bushed out harder than the rest of my girls and and had the most tops. She is giving me the most and fattest buds so far but she is also harder to keep happy. The girl I thought was the most useless is actually my second best, they can always shock is my only point here. Whole different game once you start flowering the'm out.

  12.
lol its not like I am going to start ignoring the others and dote on her, as far as they know I love them all equally.
I just find she takes in the most water and nutes, she seems to be growing the tallest/bushiest, all of her clones took whereas the other ones had some that didn't, I dunno I just feel like in my bones she might be the one. The one whose clone I am going to turn into my very first mother plant.
But we'll see what happens, your right, things can change. One of the others might be a much better smoke and I'll want to keep them because of that. Hmmm.....

So far they are in week 1 going on 2 of flowering. Or has it been 2 weeks going on 3? I am losing track of time....all I know is that they are alive and well and they are starting to form the very tiniest of beginnings of flowers. It begins....I am looking around the tent and wondering what I am going to do here shortly, as I fear I might be facing a space issue. They look pretty wide as opposed to tall.....I might have to formulate a plan.

  13.
Had a moment, thought I'd update.
Plants are getting bigger, starting to feel jungly. I am starting to notice more flower-y type sites developing as well.
    ontheway.jpg 001.jpg 002.jpg

The clones are all alive, some more-so then others. And poor Breezy is hanging on, my hubby and i were joking we should rename her Charlie after that pathetic Christmas tree lol
    hangininthere.jpg guesswhostheleader.jpg

  14. It's getting pretty packed in there, plants look great...except for charlie.  Is it a proven cut or is just something a friend had?  I had a cut of Warlock that could never dial in, grew it for a year and a half.  Thought I was just not a good enough grower.  I asked the guy I got it from and he had issues dialing it in too, in a completely different set up than mine.  We both stopped growing that cut after that conversation.  Some cuts are passed on because the product is dank, and some because there is a 'Let's see what you can do with it' attitude.  The vigor is just not there in that plant you got, the rest are growing very fast.

I have a HPS as well and there's not much you can do about the yellow tint.  I turned down the saturation on my camera and that helped, but the glare is always present and the color is always off.

    Nice update.

LOL, yeah you know me.  It's funny I'm one of the last people you'd expect to find in a hydro grow.  Now if August shows up...

I met this lady in the sexing thread, had a bit of a dust up because of my newbie status, and this lady was kind enough to continue posting pictures so I could win the argument.. if you want to call it that.  Wait that sounds even worse.  Ah you know I like good peeps, I keep my creepin to real life interaction.  Besides she's married to a guy much cooler than me, if you can believe that's possible.

To be honest I've always embraced all ways of growing, and most of the crap I dealt with when I was modding was because someone couldn't be more open minded and receptive towards others and how they grow.  We should all check out a good hydro grow now and again.

That was funny man!  Pussyslut keep up the good work.

Basically what happened to "charlie" is that my friend got some seeds and decided to do a grow, he popped all 5 and they all took but he only had room for 4. So, I volunteered to take one just for fun and he gave me the challenged one. I thought she was doing pretty good considered the fact she wasn't supposed to make it (Only had one cotyledon). It was *my* fault I put too much water in her bucket, I pretty much drowned her, I drowned her bad.  I'm gonna hang onto her though, she can join this batch of clones when the time comes, I'm just going to keep her for personal smoke. Who knows, maybe all this hardship and adversity is going to make her a substantial smoke, I'd like to think so....? Only one way to find out :)

I may only stay hydro for another half year or so, I have actually been doing a lot of reading on Aeroponics and I find it *very* appealing....     The hubby said he was going to get me some ebb&flow tables once these girls were chopped but the more I read about way Aeroponics works the more I like it, maybe I can convince him to get me that instead?? Who knows I might even be able to build something myself if I can find a good misting system......oh yeah wheels are turning

Is it bad that I sort of enjoy how "spit-on" my profile name has become? lol  I find it amusing when people sort of automatically assume I'm a 15 year old boy lol

I didn't assume that at all...I actually assumed you were probably a really easy going, ...maybe...28-34 year old women....am I close?

Doesn't really matter to me whatever the case is....I just like busting Homers balls once in a while...I think he expects it from me...and I wouldn't want to disappoint the coolest dude in the world lol...

All kidding aside....I embrace anyone that enjoys growing good herb....doesn't matter to me how you go about it...as long as you are having fun with it and enjoying the fruits of your labor.

Everything I've seen in here looks really nice....keep it up.... and enjoy your weekend :). ...I'll be lurking in the shadows and will speak up every once in a while.....

    Peace!

    Pussyslut,

GS and I have known each other well enough to bust stones, that's one of the themes on this site!  The grow forums at least, the other forums you gotta be careful in, sure you get lots of reactions.  We growers are a bit too laid back and glazed over to get hung up on a name, I'm a plant pictures kind of guy.  Bud porn is what I always remember about someone.

Truth be told I find it completely ironic that you are a first time grower and already know more about hydroponics than I do.  I gave it a few runs a decade ago, most important thing I learned is I should not grow hydroponically.  The more I am out of the equation during the growth of the plant the better.  Hope you don't have any electrical outages in your area.  I wanted to give aquaponics a run but the suburbs I live in suffer outages regularly and that's no good.  I did have plans for a set up, most of the parts can be found at Home Depot, the fine mist nozzles might be more of a specialty, your area depending/

I've grown organically almost 10 years, it keeps me from messing things up.  I follow recipes for a living, don't want to come home and do it.  That said I have a healthy respect for those who can follow directions meticulously.

My bad I missed the post where Charlie was drowned, I take it back it looks 100% better now.  Sorry Charlie.

  20. Subbed.  Love a bubble bucket grow and your gear is great!  Too many people go cheap in the beginning and pay for it in the end.  I am waiting for a house deal to go through before growing again so I grow vicariously through other people's threads.   One word of warning - you seem to do you research so you would probably find this out before it's too late - aeroponics and organic nutes do not normally mix well together.  The misters get clogged very easily so if you switch to aero I recommend switching to synthetic nutes.  You are staying on top of it so far and looking forward watching it til the end.
