Hey guys. I'm in the research phase of learning how to ScrOG. I'm looking for the input of growers who've ScrOGed successfully indoors. I know the importance of timing my shift to accomodate the stretch at the flip, and therefore I need to properly train the plant out to fill the screen with the veg time I have.

My inquiry is in how to properly train clones for this purpose over the course of vegetative growth. 4 plants, 5gal pots, living soil, in a 3.5ftx3.5ft ScrOG under a 600w MH. Most probably Blue Cheese clones from an experienced practitioner.

I understand that you want to top the plant to promote bushy growth. I know how to top the first time, and how to train the plant once it hits the screen. What to do between those two times is the foggy spot for me.

Should I top clones as soon as their root system is established?

After topping, how do I maintain good side growth? Do I just let it stretch to screen height after the topping and then screen train until flower?

  2. Hey there!

I'm starting my 4th week of flower tomorrow in my first time scrog.

I did a lot of unnecessary training during veg.

I wish I had not super cropped my branches so low. By the time they were getting to the edge of the screen then limbs were to heavy to get any height. I had to cut them off in the end. Lost some good tops as a result.

Anyhow I've got a clone I'm vegging out and my current plan is to LST the main stem only. This will allow all the growing shoots to form as tops without affecting their vertical growth.

Once the main stem reaches the set screen height the screen will do the rest.

  3. I wuld agree with theLetter3. To expand on his thought, LST or doesn't seem that important when scrogging.  The screen itself is to be used for the training.  Next time I scrog, I am going to top in order to form an X into the screen.  Then as side tops start coming up in veg, I will pull those to each side of the X formation to fill in the screen.  I think if it is done right, a 4 week veg could fill in a screen nicely.

I want to warn you about using more than 2 plants in a Scrog... they fill in a lot quicker than you would think, and if you don't have access all the way around the screen, accessibility is a pain in the ass.
