Why Is Cannabis Not Legal?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Legalization' started by BagSeedOp13, Sep 6, 2014.

  1. Every time I think about it being illegal just blows my mind. Sometimes I forget what I'm doing is illegal. Why is growing a plant illegal? Why can I smoke something that can give me cancer, but can't smoke something to help fight against cancer?

I don't see anything about making cannabis legal harmful to our country's well being. Okay, kids might smoke because it's legal, but it being illegal never stops anyone.

Illegal cannabis is scary. The best I can find is always from some guy who has a gun and thousands of dollars in cash. He has no intention on giving back to the world, just take from it. In my town the best comes from people who will do anything to get it, steal, kill, or even both.

I believe legalization needs to be done in a timely manner. As the popularity for cannabis rises so will the strength and numbers of organized crime. Having safe, legal cannabis is way better than our towns being scare of and run by organized crime.

Because the pharmaceutical, alcoholic beverage and law enforcement lobbyists have a ton of influence on our government. They'd all lose money if cannabis became legal.

  3.
  4. Because marijuana is thought of as a gateway drug. People don't realize how much money it would bring in to legalize. Hemp has so many benefits to, it's even used for biofuels. They see weed as a really bad drug because it gets you high. When people hear others talk about the word high it scares them because there are so many drugs one can get high off of. When someone says I was drunk you know it's from alcohol, that's my two sense

  5. It was made illegal in the 30's/40's because of Reefer Madness and people thought that white women would become attracted to black men. The popularity of it died down a lot until the 60's when it picked back up except the people using it were very much frowned upon by the rest of society which gave it the stereotype that if you smoke weed you'll be a useless piece of shit. This stereotype is fading pretty rapidly now though. I'd expect it to be federally legalized (at least medical) by 2020. It is bullshit though people have such closed minds about things it's incredible

  6. then you now have to get rid of it as a medicine or bring up some real challenges. This would pull the rug from under the feet of the MMJ movement that has been used as a disguise for recreational use.

Like the gay marriage issue, one state at a time. The states that do have full legal I hope understand the great responsibility they have to do it right for the rest of the nation. If they screw it up, they screw it up for all of us.

I am full blown for recreational and medicinal. But I understand the opposition's argument.

  7. Ask William Randolph Hearst

  8. Colorado has made like 18 million dollars just in taxes from sales of recreational weed in like four months.

  9. In the early 1900's a machine called the Decorticator was invented and made hemp fibers easier to process instead of using slavery. An owner of a printing company knew that this machine would put him out of business so he posted in the papers that blacks and Mexicans were smoking marijuana and raping white woman.

Obviously people believed it and the government outlawed hemp without even knowing because "marijuana" wasn't even a slang term for cannabis back then. Now days pharmaceutical companies have emerged so much that legalizing a natural medicine that is known to help over 1000's of different ailments would cost those companies billions of dollars.

  10. Yes it's pretty ridiculously, as the laws passed to make it illegal back in the 30's have little application in the modern world today.
They grew it to fund the war machine "Hemp for Victory," and everyone knows how valuable hemp is. What bugs me is how slow they are to catch on to these things, as modern life's hectic pace is only accelerating, with technology and information streaming at a breakneck speed.

So why are we cutting down so many trees and turning them into paper when we can simply grow fields of hemp and use it to make even better paper? (like the Egyptians did) We have so many mills here in BC(Canada), and they just dump their toxins in the river and clear cut everything in sight, it's a huge waste. When they shut down the mill, the entire town stinks for days, and there is a ton of cancer and mental retardation and diseases due to the unhealthy air and radon gas. Holy shit we are stupid

  12. Well it's illegal because despite the truth medical values, positive health aspects, mood boosting of marijuana those legislate dorks still can't comprehend it's GOOD. Hell, you can die because of the tea if you overdose! Isn't that right? How can all of them place Mary on the same level as this:

A diplomatic car belonging to the Vatican has been stopped at a French checkpoint carrying four kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of £500,000.

    This:

In tests with experimental animals, cocaine is the only drug that the animals will repeatedly and continuously demand on their own to the point of killing themselves. Although cocaine is not physically addictive the way heroin is (meaning that the user physically craves the drug and suffers withdrawal when off it), it nonetheless creates a profound psychological dependence in which the mind craves the ecstasy that comes with the drug. Further, since the user experiences fatigue and depression when he or she stops, there is little reason to want to quit. Over time, these cravings get stronger and stronger, and the user can only think of how to get another "hit." This obviously makes them unable to live a normal life without the drug, which has by now taken over their lives.

\tCocaine is more aggressive than thought, increasing risk of stroke six to seven times in a 24-hour window\tAfter researching typical stroke risk factors like personal behavior, diet, medical, and environmental factors, he found that the greatest risk of stroke for young adults comes in the form of cocaine. In fact, his research, presented at the American Stroke Association's International Stroke Conference 2014, showed that snorting cocaine increases ischemic stroke risk six to seven times within a 24-hour window. (An ischemic stroke happens when the blood vessels carrying blood into the brain are suddenly blocked.)
