What Really Determines The Color Of Shatter?

  1. So I've heard many things on here and from friends. Strain dependent, amount of terps, fresh or dried...

The lost goes on. I'm not here to say I've figured it out but i do have a theory.

Based on my my few runs and availability to fresh weed, I've come to the following theory.

The color is largely based by the life stage of the trichome. If the Thrichomes are clear or cloudy you get very light gold to almost no color and if they are past that stage in the amber color then the shatter comes out a darker more amber color.

Also the in between colors are from starting material that has both cloudy and amber trichomes.

AGAIN, this is just a THEORY.

What do you guys think? Especially you who have more experience with blasting/washing.

Do you guys look at the trichomes prior to blasting/washing? Or is that just me?

    Lol

If you do everything perfect when it comes to prep, blasting and purging then color comes down to strain, and age of material. But if you winterize it that old material will look just as good as when it was fresh. I have seen people take fresh trim and just shove it in a bag straight from trimming for a month then try to blast it after it is starting to decompose. Or better yet ask me to blast it and give them tasty gold goodness.

  3. I agree with you on that.

I've have noticed that the Thrichome color in the start comes out in the end. Need more experimenting but I deff think there is a correlation between trich life stage and color of final product.

  4. trich maturity, strain, age of material, purge temps
