Okay guys so the time has come for me to start my very first grow (Yipiee!) However I have a quick question. I want to keep this grow fairly stealthy, I'v already picked out a strain with nice genetics that doesn't smell to much and I don't want to grow it too high. I was wondering what the differences would be as well as the pros and cons (If any) of growing in a shallow wide pot as opposed to a deep pot. Would this just tangle my roots? And would I need to find something to help support it as it grow (Keep in mind I won't let it get too big 40cm tops. Thanks in advance
The dollar stores have small and large popcorn buckets that are good, almost 2 gallons. Small waste paper baskets too. mop buckets. Go to a dollar store get lots of planters to fill your space and grow the shit out of the plants. These popcorn buckets are 10 x 10 and are 7 liter. I own over 50 of them. I'd say it makes a difference if you are using clones or seed-raised too. Clones don't have a taproot, and would probably be fine in either. If your plants were grown from seed, they will have taproots, so a deep pot would probably work better...
I'm using seeds Wow, that looks fantastic! Is the stop picture as big as they grow under those conditions?
the top picture is about a month into flowering, that was an old 1,000w MH and a real ghetto set up so I could do last years Christmas crop. That was a mini sea of green of autos. They can get 4 feet outside.
A buddy of mine is going to be doing that, but he's only going to have 1 or 2 plants in it. However he has some sand setup which keeps the plants watered for a while. if you have so many plants their wouldn't their roots get tangled?
Yes but they are a family of sisters, I dont care if the roots get tangled, plants grow in groups just fine. I got 22 ounces from the one pool. Thats the sea of green method, lots of plants. In single containers or groups. the popcorn buckets are great with 25 plants under a 1,000w.
Niicccce As soon as I get back from Amsterdam next year I can focus on getting my own place so I can do all this too :'(
I use the whole plastic soil bags, 50 liters each. As the plants grow, I bend them more and more, so in the end the bags are flat on the floor, about 5 inches in hight (and the plants are about 2 meters each). See more here.
I thought it was that if you use a shallower pot that the plant would grow wider instead of taller and if you used a deep pot that the plant would grow more up instead of wider. Could be wrong though but thought I read something about that a while ago
Volume is what matters, not height or width. A 100 gallon planter isnt much more tall than a 20 gallon, but will support much larger plants.
