Poker Games And Hold em Tournament Busts...

  1. I know there's a sports/poker sub-forum but this is more like a real life story.  No one really shows up there anyway.

Well, ever since I was in high-school I played a lot of poker.  Many times if there was nothing to do we'd have a hold 'em game.  I always had money in my pocket, but my friends didn't always.  I'd smoke them up and take their chips at the game.  They got smoked up a lot but I won a lot.

So we played around with other kids too.  Outside our core group we'd extend out and then I'd go play with other people when they were playing.

There were times playing in classrooms or anywhere I found someone wanting to play a poker game and make money from it.  My best friend may be better than me he's read a lot of books and made money all around.  We were almost like Rounders but we never worked together and never played for too much money either.  Usually $10-$20 buy-ins and you can rebuy.

My friend was always a big gambler but he knows his stuff.  He was like a young Ace Rothstein from Casino..younger with a lot less money.  One time we went to the racetrack and we got a tip on a horse from a friend and got paid nicely on it.  He had money everywhere and on everything.

Anyway, when we turned 21 we decided to go to Atlantic City and play in this pretty big poker tournament.  It was $120 to join so we were alright with that.  It wasn't too much to commit to the tourney.

Well I build up a massive stack by knocking people out in the tourney early on.  I'm really playing great poker and probably one of the chip leaders in the tourney.  My friend saw my stack and was shocked how much I had.  They had to get my this chip rack to move me to another table.  I knew I was doing good.

I was just playing poker for too long, and poker can play with your emotions.  I started feeling like God and getting restless or something.  I should have went for a smoke break in the hotel room but I was sitting there.
This guy makes a hefty raise but compared to my stack it's not too much.  It was like 4 BB and should've folded but I looked and it didn't look like the guy had a lot of chips.

I push my stack all-in....he calls..He pulls out all these chips he was holding in his pocket and takes nearly my whole stack.  I was deflated after that.    I had KJo and he had QQ.  It was such a donk move.  I only thought that his chip stack was so light that it wouldn't hurt me but either way it was a bad move.

I just look back at that tourney in my young poker playing career, very first tourney and think how I blew all those chips on such a bad play.

When I first got to the table, people were impressed by my stack no doubt..they were looking at me like who the heck is this guy?  After that play they were looking at me shaking their heads like wtf was he thinking.
LOL I really blew that one but oh well.  Something experience will do for you...also patience and just not making stupid moves like that.  He really duped me by hiding chips in his hoody though.

That was just a facepalm moment. Any other players out there?

NJ has legal poker. Now we just need legal mj.
