Time For A Change

  1. Howdy everyone!

So after growing tired of the weather, lack of employment in the IT industry for anyone over the age of 30, and the crappy education system here in the great state of TX, my partner and I have decided that we would pack up our bags and move. Since we have both grown and smoked, for medical reasons (in an illegal state) for many years, we decided that we would focus our job searches in the Portland or Seattle area but I have ground to halt as I am unable to find any reliable job searches or recruiters for the IT side of things. I have came across sites like weedhire or 420careers but those have proven to be a waste of my time.

I am wondering if there is anyone out there that might know of any other sites that focus on the IT side of things like desktop or server support, system administration, or IT Management or know of any recruiters that I could contact?

Unfortunately you cant just search dispensary IT jobs on dice or indeed lol.

Anyone that could point me in the right direction would be very helpful.

    Thanks

  2. I'm currently in the same situation however I'm from New York. If you find out any useful information please let me know. I wanna take my grow to Colorado, or simply work for a grow in Colorado but the internet has become a difficult place to find useful information

  3. Sorry for the delay in writing. I agree about the internet. I have done months of searches online and reached out to several recruiters in the areas that I want to move to and no one wants to give out any information. I have tried sites like WeedHire but for IT jobs it is a joke.

  4. Unfortunately for you the demand for IT workers in the field is low as I can tell, at least in portland.  I know a few dispensary owners and never has any of them mentioned having an IT guy, or even running into a problem that would justify hiring one.  The buisness models used in most production and retail aspects of the biz around here just don't demand hiring someone on to fill such a role.  So, if you are looking for an IT role I can pretty much guarantee you won't find one employed for someone else in the weed biz around here...  That's not to say their isn't a market for people like you, but I have a feeling to succeed it would have to be servicing multiple accounts under your own banner, because I have just never even heard of a need for full time assistance from a single employer in the field you are interested in.  If I were you I would look into IT groups around the portland area and even see if such a niche exists currently, but you might just be chasing the end of the rainbow and have to settle for working at intel or sun microsystems :p

Most dispensaries either use an extremely simple wifi + POS setup or even just old school paper and pen number tracking. I don't think the IT industry will overlap with the medical or recreational cannabis business until you see corporations and franchises in the mix which I think most of us hope never happens. Just my 2 cents from what I've seen. From an IT / Dev background myself - goodluck friend!
