For all we know she worked double shifts a couple days in a row and is flat out tired. Even a stoned mama would have whipped his ass. Cannabis cookies will fuck you up like that though.
Emotionally speaking, I can see where the kid's coming from. But I still think that perhaps his reaction was a bit excessive. Maybe just a light pat on the cheek.
