Fuck Conservative Media

  1. I can't stand conservative media. I went with my grandpa to get his cane, the whole trip he listened to talk radio and it's a dude who's just spewing ignorant bullshit and when this dude called in he changed the volume ratio to 30/70 and just talked over him while the dude was trying to voice his opinion, and was like "let me finish you ignorant little liberal"and muted him while he went on for 5mins, then asked him a question and kept cutting him off when he tried to explain himself.

The host wanted a yes or no answer, the dude was like "I sat here calmly and let you finish, now may I please voice my opinion?" and the host was like okay, dude talked for 10 seconds before the host called him an idiot and hung up on him and just spent the next minute talking shit about how stupid he was even though he had very valid points.

He spent the next 30mins talking out of his ass and when a professional on the topic called in, he said he didn't know what he was talking about and hung up on him. Just like come on, you want people to debate don't just mute them and yell your opinion. And no, I'm not trying to paint this guy in a positive light I'm telling it exactly as it happened. I'm not conservative, but I'm also not a liberal. I'm independent. Socially liberal, fiscally conservative.

Same thing when my grandpa watches Fox news, it's just so much bullshit and propaganda that I'm just sitting there cringing. I mean the liberal media is pretty one sided too but at least they're civil about shit. Conservative media's idea of news is yelling propaganda louder than their opponents while having with their heads too far up their asses to hear anyone else. It's like their target audience is old men who have nothing better to do than believe whatever they hear and be mad about shit, especially if it involves gay rights or anything opposing Christianity or gun control.

How about just biased media in general?

I agree Fox News is especially bad, but mainstream media in general faces many conflicts of interest and general bias and that should be the focus (otherwise we are also responsible for participating in biased behavior).

  7. When I worked with my grandfather he'd always turn on the Rush Limbaugh show in the morning and I would have to switch it to the rap station when he left. It was a constant battle. We compromised though.

I've become desensitized to conservative talk-shows. It's just background noise.

  8. I told him I couldn't listen to rush Limbaugh anymore because it's like literally 3-4mins of content then he twists it into a lifelock endorsement or whatever he's supporting this week and talks about that for 5mins then goes to commercials for 5 and repeats the cycle. His show is 85% ads. I just can't do it. I can deal with bullshit because I can laugh at it but hours of ads I cannot.

Most radio talkshows (unless it is XM) have 5-8 minute segments and then 5-8 minutes of commercials. It's definitely not something I'd want to sit through.

I wish Howard Stern was still on public radio :/

  10.
Mark Levin.  I nicknamed him Livid Levin ...

  11. I don't listen to talk radio. I listen to Pink Floyd dark side of the moon.

  12.
Listener-funded podcasts are where its at - no ads!

  13. Fuck liberal media.

  14.
I had XM radio for many years, and would listen to political talk shows on long drives to keep me awake....they were definitely more ads than they were talk. It was generally 3-4min talk, then 5-6 min of ads on all the stations (I timed it many times). And to think I was paying a subscription fee for that. I don't have XM any more.

  15.
AFAIK, Limbaugh started this "great" idea of folding commercials into what people assume is show content. There's a libertarian show I listen to sometimes in the evening and they do the same thing. In the old days, I believe a broadcast hour consisted of around 42 minutes of content. It can't be much over 30 minutes now.

One advantage: You know there's going to be 5-6 minutes of commercials back-to-back so that gives you more time to do something else, haha, something maybe more productive like take a shit.

As for Limbaugh, Hannity, etc.: They are defenders of government, despite what they say. The only thing they really argue about is which "team" should be running the government. I used to listen to Limbaugh all the time, but after 9/11 I just couldn't stand him anymore.

"Whether you favor welfare or warfare, it doesn't matter who you vote for -- you'll get plenty of both."

  16. The JRE podcast only has ads for the first few minutes then its 2.5+ hours of content.  No ads are still better though.

  17. I haven't decided which I hate worse.. FOX or MSNBC..

What I will give fox is the general entertainment factor. I'm not gunna ingest what bill O'Reilly is saying but man he sure gets excited and thinks he's a professional on.. Like.. Black kids.. In low incomes.. With 1 or fewer parents. If the world would just listen. Bill would fix the ghetto

  20. i remember listening to rush limbaugh on the car ride to kindergarten with my uncle every day and having discussions way above my level. even though i was too young to understand the issues, simply discussing them made me more intelligent.

my point is that you can take away something positive even from biased sources.
