Recent New Breathing Problems With Smoking, Am I Alone On This?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by immapuke, Aug 27, 2014.

  1. So to give you a background, I used to smoke pretty regularly for about 2 years, few times a week. Mostly smoked bowls. Last year I bought the pax vape and used that from the time I bought it. With either of these or any smoking device never had any breathing problems whatsoever.

January 2014. I start a job at a construction site, lots of dust and what not. Maybe a coincidence but I always feel I have to mention it. 3 days later and vaping like usual and in the middle of the session I experience horrible chest pain in my right side and quickly become short of breath. I pretty much go into an asthma attack or something, I'm short of breath, my chest hurts, and I'm freaking out. Eventually it goes away. I try a few weeks later. Same reaction. I had a respiratory infection for about 1-2 months following but it went away. I tried smoking again about 2 months ago (June 2014) and only took a few hits from my vape, same reaction.."asthma attack." I've gone to the doctor several times throughout the year and I'm told my lungs are normal...

Has any tokers experienced anything like this? Going from no lung problems when smoking to not even being able to take a few hits without extreme chest pain/tight chest/shortness of breath? It's pretty lame. I make edibles now but I really miss smoking. On a side note my lungs haven't felt the same since then (just generally feel restricted) but they're not really bothered by anything else as much as smoking. What I find strange is that I only hear from people that weed helps asthma. I don't even know if I have asthma officially but I have an inhaler from the doc and I'm pretty damn sure that's what it is.

I've thought the idea of being allergic to the smoke..maybe. I was thinking about slowly introducing myself back to smoking..taking tiny hits and seeing how much I can handle..however I don't want to push it as it's really rather frightening and painful when I go through another attack.

Any advice? Or similar experiences? I really cannot find anyone else with this problem.

For the record I quit working at the site in June, and by then the building was mostly finished and I was not exposed to a lot of dust or anything.

    Stay high brothers.

  2. Woah, shit. That sounds terrifying. Anyways, i think its probably a combination of the infection and the job. Did your doctor check your entire respiratory tract or just your lungs? The problem could lie elsewhere. Or you may have an incompetent doctor. Id say get a second opinion from a doctor specifying in these types of things (lungs, not weed haha). Lungologist or what have you.

    Nature. Fuck yeeh.

  3. Also, try taking a few nice little bong rips with really cold water and lots of ice. Try to find out if smoking normally is any better than the vape

    Nature. Fuck yeeh.

  4. I have a breathing problem condition and all the specialists couldn't find anything wrong. When I smoke it makes it a little easier to breath, or I just don't care if I breath or not.

Sounds like that infection may not have been entirely cleared.  You may also have a condition called "Reactive Airway Disease" that's kind of like asthma but not necessarily a life-long condition.  I think it is smart not to smoke or vape till it is resolved, and you should see the doc (maybe a different one) and tell him things still don't feel right so he can do more testing and find out what's going on.

I had Reactive Airway disease a few years ago after some work done in my house that raised a shit load of plaster dust.  I used an inhaler for a while and it resolved - so I think exposure to dust on the construction site could be a factor.

Incidentally I had not smoked any cannabis for years prior to that incident so it wasn't a factor at all.
