How Often Do You Flush?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by ZigZagD9, Aug 25, 2014.

  1. Yo, I was watching a video on youtube the other day and someone said that they flush their plants in between every feed. So they would feed and wait for the soil to dry and then flush with pure water to get rid of any nutrient build up, let that dry and then feed with water and nutrients again.

Is this a good idea? What is your thoughts on this concept?

  2. I just flush the last 2 weeks of harvest and I haven't had salt build up because it would show by nutrient lockout. Imo

  3. well, that's the way I do it, but it's not because of nutrient build up. My fertilizer mix is already diluted as much as is practical, but it's still pretty potent, and if I don't alternate the plant gets too much fertilizer.

  4. My friend has not done it but he is new to the world of weed. I will tell him to read about it. He is into week 4 of flowering I think. The first pistil showed 1AUG. Is that when the flowering clock starts or when you switch 12/12?

Yeah but he means flushing, as in putting 3x the amount of water through the container.
I think everyone does a feed-water-feed unless they only do like 1/8 strength each time.

I really think it is unnecessary like ehayze said unless you have a salt buildup or if you over feed, but I use organic nutrients so I really don't have to worry about the buildup.

  6. I hear ya, but even so called "organics" have salt in them. It's not a problem for me because I never re use soil. After the grow, it goes outside for the tomatoes, and gets plenty of rain.

otherwise, I agree, feed water feed is a pretty good way to go..

  7. Uhh..no it doesnt. The ingredients are fish meal, yucca extract, kelp meal, alfalfa extract and brewers yeast. See any salts in there?
Either way as long as you're feeding them right even with chemical nutes you shouldn't get build ups.

  8.
    I do almost the opposite.

A waste of feed. A bottle of veg , bloom and cal mag last me a long time.

Cannabis is not even close to a Heavy feeder.

Im growing hydro or outdoors now.

Sounds like the right way to grow in COCO though.

  9. I used to be a Fox Farmer, switched to BC nutes and have NO Salt problems and not too much nute burn. Feed , water, water , feed. Flush a week before harvest. I do add something in my waterings though , but that's my own secret. Good luck

  11. ok, I'll look it up on the internet. Whatever they say is probably true.

  12. You know why i'm here don't you?

I flush every time I take a dump.

    Exit....stage left......... :bolt:

  13. Anyone else any input?

  14. Only time I've ever flushed is last 2 weeks of harvest, besides that the only reason you would need to flush between feedings is if there is a deficiency that requires you to flush out the buildup so feeding and uptake can resume. Flushing shouldn't be used as part of a regular feeding schedule, if that's what you're asking OP. The only thing regular it should be used for, is to flush before harvest. Anything else, it's because the plant is suffering and needs to be flushed.

Flushing is usually done at the end of flower apprx 2 weeks. As for salt buildup use Dyna gro it will get better results look here and read article   http://www.dyna-gro.com    Budswell Super Bat Guano, Clearex or Dyna Flush (aka to have better terpentine oil ending, Blooms Oooze or Rock Resinator can also be ran threw flush with you flavor addition by adding 1 bottle of lorann candy flavoring to your res apprx 20gal RESERVOIR per bottle of lorann. When running sugars like molasses or pretty much any sacchrides  can and will spoil a resevior. ONLY ADD THE MOLASSES OR HARD BASE SUGAR TO RESERVOIR 1 DAY BEFORE your 1st flush then at 1 day before last week. After this 1 DAY ADDITION CLEAN YOUR RESERVOIR AND ONLY MIX UP TO THE LORANN AN DONT RUN SUGARS. Cotton candy base blueberry from SMART & FINAL works well an is a HARD base sugar as molasses is gooey more for the goo in the canna. So HARD bases for hardening (DRIED BUDS) and the molasses for the sticky is the key. Use the hard base at 1 tbsp per 20gal and also the same with the molla. Do this application of this mix 1 day before the first day of the your 2 week flush and 1 day before at the 1 week end. This mix and flush has an AROMA AND TASTE to Be experienced it is fenominal as buds sessions will last longer as the hard gooey effects lavish this experience. thanks foloow us on our sites. ....Peace

  16. No it Starts the day of 12/12 switch.

  17. Never flush and never had a problem.

  18.
    When the pistils show.

No, not really. Honestly it shouldn't matter TOO much and I'll tell you why I think that.

If you start counting the days in flower from when you switch to 12/12 it may be about a week out from when it shows its first pistils. Now you have two dates that you can consider the start of flowering. All that is doing is telling you a baseline for how long the plant SHOULD take in flowering. However if you harvest based solely on the time a breeder says a plant will take to flower, you may harvest way early. Heck, maybe even late!

So I say keep both dates in mind as a reminder to really keep an eye on your plants at a certain point in time. They are usually only a week apart in time, so it's not that hard to look at trichomes a little earlier, or longer. Lots matters in addition to that general flowering time. Is the strain stable, or will it favor one parent more than the other from seed to seed? Do your lights have enough penetration and coverage to let the plant grow at it's full, fastest capacity? Are you feeding and watering perfectly, not stunting growth? Do you check trichomes? Pistils? Overall look and size of plant?

I'm not trying to come off like an ass. I'm blown and trying really hard to explain well why I think flowering starts at the first sign of pistil, but why it shouldn't really matter.

Oh I also think flowering starts at the first pistils because from that point until harvest, in my grows, it is the closest to the breeders suggested time overall (and when the plant actually turns out to be ready).
