Foraging/growing Wild Edibles Medicinals?

  1. Anybody forage or let stuff grow that just pops up?

I've been leaving dandelion greens for years... I love free stuff! Can't believe people actually buy these at the market!

Then I found out about plantain which I have been seeing my whole damn life.. just never knew what it was..

So now I let a good amount of those stay as long as they aren't crowding a neighbor..

Then I thought I had strawberries growing (kind of do but not really) because sometimes we throw scraps or overripe fruit off the deck towards the garden and had thought strawberries had sprouted from that.. Nope.. Indian Strawberries which as it turns out every part of the plant is edible and medicinal!

  2. I'm not that type of person but I have def heard of people foraging for edibles around by where they live. Sounds like something I would only do if I was starving, lol. But it is getting a little bigger in the suburban areas.

  3. Were I in a pristine forest  I'd have no problem bringing home a bunch of watercress, berries, etc but for the most part I only harvest what is around me. We get a lot of berries from the trees around my lake though, often my son will run out with a cup to fill up with berries for him when hhe sees me going out on the boat while they are in season ;) Dandelion greens as I mentioned are well worth it..

  4. Here in San Diego, we don't have a lot of edible plants near the outskirts. Though we have elderberries, something called maya, and a few wild lettuce plants. I've eaten a few elderberries while hiking around. Wish I lived in NorCal, they can live directly off of foraging. Perfect world I'd have a farm lol.
