Dwc Root Issues

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by Guerilla King, Aug 23, 2014.

1. Need a little help here. My plants are 2 months old and about 2 weeks into flower. The strain is Aoura Indica. I keep frozen water bottles to lower the temps and change them every 2-3 hours. I'm only using FloraNova bloom and ph down. My buckets have been wrapped up and all light blocked off.

My issue is I have either algae or a fungus. I thought it could be root rot but I don't see how if I took all the preventative measures.

I put some H2O2 in the tank through the net pot and apparently I didn't dilute it enough and shocked the hell out of them. I'm sure they will recover but I need to get this root problem fixed before I lose my babies

2. Sad to say yesterday i had to cut my baby down she was two weeks from harvest. Had a root issue. Also. My advice change water every 3 to 4 days. I stopped and waited a week to change nute sad sad zqq

3. I just don't understand how to fix it or how I got it in the first place. everything was fine for the longest time without any change. the second I changed my ph down brand this starts happening. I can take clones off the infected plants and start over right?

What should I do differently to prevent this again

4. Something as simple as having dirty hands when you touch the bottle can introduce bacteria.

Temps are usually the culprit.

I NEVER change my res between grows and have no issues, for what its worth.

I also add cannazym pretty often. Its expensive but it has prevented problems i was having before I added it. No chillers or anything.

Also use only distilled water. I take those 5 gallon jugs down to a glacier machine and fill them up for 1.50

Out of curiosity, what did you change your salt to!?

I was using GH dry powder ph down and having similar problems. I switched to AN concentrate and bought droppers and it stopped!

i'm using draxis ph down. Could I use cannazym to clear up the issue? I was thinking that I should fill up a jug of water every time I go but tap water was working very well for about 5 weeks.  I transplanted one that was really bad into soil and drenched the soil very thoroughly and put drain holes. Hopefully it will save it. I have heard that it works.

I've read that using Great White or Dutchmaster would help me combat the problem. Is it too late to order some and add it. I know if it's pythium that I will never cure it, only subdue it.

7. I forgot to add that I use advanced nutrients sensizym roots enzyme root cleanser. Does that help or should I just get a bottle of cannazym and get filtered water and be done?

What temperature is your nutrient solution?
What size is your reservoir?
How many litres per minute of air are you pushing through the nutrient solution?
What is your EC or ppm?

9. 5 gallon rez
PH 5.0-5.5 usually until this started happening now adjusting daily
PPM 750 was running 1000 but backed off when roots started showing problems
I don't know how much all together I'm using. I use two port pumps that are rated for 150 gallon. I have two airstones a piece in each bucket.
I change frozen water bottle every two hours so temp isn't the issue unless it's too low. I have no way to tell what the actual number is right now.

If you are putting ice in there every two hours you might be freezing your roots. I don't adjust my res temperature at all and it stays below 70℉.

Your pumps are rated for 150 gallons? Is that for keeping fish? Keeping plants is a completely different ball game. I always recommend 1 litre of air per minute for every 2 litres of nutrient solution. What wattage are the pumps? That can give a rough indication of what they push out

11. You talking about adding chlorine in the res? I was thinking about that. I'm going to the store tomorrow to get my h2o2 to do a root dunk. I'm not sure what I should use in my system to help with the problem.

Dutchmaster, great white, aquashield. what should I use.

12. How much h2o2 did you put in?

I follow these dosages myself

35% - 10ml for every 35 litres of water
17.5% - 10ml for every 17.5 litres of water
9% - 10ml for every 9 litres of water
6% - 10ml for every 6 litres of water
3% - 10ml for every 3 litres of water

13. Yes it's for keeping fish. My temps get hot because I'm running 3 600 watt hps . I put the frozen bottle in there not actual ice (to clarify)

Here are spec for my air pump. I have two of those and one other one that is bigger. I figured if oxygen was the problem wouldn't it have shown it from the start?
Specifications:
·         Max Flow: 80 GPH
·         Pressure: 0.020 MPA or 2.90 PSI
·         Dimension: 4.25 x 2.50 x 3.00 inches (L x W x H)
·         Length of power cord: 2.75 feet
•          110V-120V / 60Hz, 3W

14. I have to get more tomorrow night. It will be 3%. Should I let it stay in the res or do I need to drain it again. I'm really using a lot of nutes the past couple days.

Ordered Shark White and GH PH down. I'm planning on getting filtered water when I go as well. Should I get a new container as well to try to save the plant or just clean it with bleach and keep it in the same one. I don't want to spread the contamination but If it will save the plant and not get in the next res that's what I will do

15. It would be less likely to show problems from the start because smaller plants use up less oxygen. 80 US gallons per hour is 5 litres per minute, so one of these pumps would be good for up to 10 litres of nutrient solution. Having an inadequate air flow increases the risk of anaerobic bacteria growth

16.
I would use the same container but clean it out. Add h2o2 to the water every 4 days. No need to change the water, the h2o2 is very reactive and changes to h2o and o2 (water and oxygen) within a couple of days

So are you saying that my pump is too small? Could I just add another with an airstone? It does make sense what your saying.

I'm going to add the h2o2 in tomorrow night. What should I keep my ppms at while it's trying to heal? 600-800?

18. Practically I would need two of those pumps per bucket. or get bigger pumps? Think that's my issue?

I'm not sure. How many of those pumps do you have in the one 5 gallon bucket? In a 5 US gallon bucket (19 litres) I would want to be pushing about 10 litres per minute, so 2 of those pumps should do it if they are 5 litres per minute.

80 US gallons per hour = 5 litres per minute

80 US gallons x 3.78  litres per gallon = 303 litres.
303 litres / 60 minutes in an hour = 5 litres per minute

Always match your reservoir's ppm to the ppm of the solution that the plant is currently taking up
