Making A Organic Soil Mix For Very Cheap.

  1. Hey fellars. I need some ideas for making a cheap soil mix that will cost nothing or next to nothing here is my list of ingredients so far.

Compost from our garden. should be plenty of worms floating about

Zeolite (in place of perlite. anyone used this?)

gravel and sand for drainage. Is the gravel really worth using? can get lots for free.

Cow/ sheep manure. if given the choice, which would you guys prefer to use?

pigeon shit. do you guys reccomend using this for mj? ive heared its the best organic fert, but ive heared alot of things that arent true... should be full of nitrogen though!

Also what is something that could be used instead of peat moss? it seems to be very expensive over here. $25 for a tiny brick. No thanks.

What are some other ingredients one could aquire for little to no cost? i live in a plentiful area in New Zealand cheers.

  2.
Sheep- less chance of antibiotics, steroids, etc.  Make sure any shit that you use is composted (well-aged).

Leaf mold is a great replacement for peat moss.  Basically leaves that have been decomposing for a few years.  Google it for more reference.

Dynamic accumulator plants are great sources of free fertilizer.  Stinging nettle, yarrow, dandelion, comfrey, just to name a few.  You should be able to find wild nettle, yarrow, and dandelion, but are unlikely to find wild comfrey.  You could get the roots here (http://www.koanga.org.nz/shop/artichokes-comfrey-strawberries-uluco-yams-yacon/comfrey-root/) and grow it yourself....

  3. I use about 75% uncrushed lava rock and 25% pea gravel for my aeration.
