Premature Drying On The Vine? Should I Remove?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by kuishinbo, Aug 21, 2014.

  1. My plants have been flowering for about 3 weeks now. Probably grape ape but I'm not sure. Anyway, mybig Amazon Princess big -girl is developing some pretty nice buds. A buddy point out a couple places under the main cola where the sugar leaves were starting to get discolored and dried and it seemed to be spreading to the bud above and below.

I've heard of the plant cannibalizing itself and the leaves yellowing, which is happening but I haven't seen this happen to the buds.

Pics attached of the plant, the detail area, and a closeup of the weirdness that I picked off the plant lest it spread.  It doesn't seem like mold.  Any ideas?

. all marijuana plants do that. The leaves will start to yellow up into bud because its focus is to make buds and not leaves... hopefully you didn't harvest yet

  3. And also over time the white hairs will turn brown, thats also a way to tell when your bud is ripe enough to smoke. When 80 percent of the white hairs are brown shes ready to harvest and most if not all the leaves will have turned yellow and fallen off

  4. Your plant looks fine let it grow.

  5. I know the leaves do that, I never saw it start to do that to the buds. It seemed to be spreading from where it was, so i just picked off the weirdly dried out bit - just the amount I show in the hand there. I think it still has at least 4 weeks to go.

  6. Ya I have never seen that on my buds

    Budworms....mabye??

They will most likely be hiding 2 inches above or below you see the budrot.

Safer brand cattapiller killer is the way to go if it is them.

  9. Since I originally posted this a week and a half ago the problem had subsided - or so I thought.  It came back a few days ago with a vengeance and I have some better pictures.

Here goes some more pictures of the dryness I see on some buds and leaves:

  10. If I go to pull those dry leave out, they come out with virtually no effort. When it happens on the buds, the whole top of the bud comes off, as if it was chewed up below.  When I look in the bud or when the leaf came out, there are these little white and black specks of "dirt."  See below:

(And in the last couple pics you can see those specs of "dirt"  Is that the leavings of a caterpillar?  I looked above and below and could not find and crawlers, although I have been picking them out as I find them.  Got the BT on the way.... thought I could do without it... but maybe not.  Making sense that this is the doings of a caterpillar(s)... what do you all think?

Definitely bud worms. No doubt about it. The moths/butterflies lay they eggs into the buds, then the babies eat their way out. What they don't ruin by chewing up they ruin by shitting in them and causing mold. The first storm all the shit in the buds gets moist and causes bud rot. Better get on top of it now. Pretty much every seasoned grower I know sprays Safer brand Caterpillar killer. It's organic and safe to use in flower. Spray in the evening because the sun degrades it very fast. Spraying at night gives it more time
    to do it's job.

  13. Thanks will get on top of that immediately.  Silly question.... is it a liquid spray - wouldn't it cause mold itself?

  14. Whats going on is not mold it is cattys and it is the season they will eat your crop!! if you do not act on it.

    spray at sunset

  15. Yep, I understand that.  I'm just asking about the spraying the product itself - since it's a liquid.. will it cause mold to grow on it?
