Froze Some Wet Weed - Drying Advice

  1. Hallo GC,

A year or two ago I didn't have time to dry some mold-threatened buds and so after snipping the mold away I put the "clean" buds in a freezer. Just discovered them while running some hash and realized I should deal with them fairly soon.

So, I have a few bags of buds in the freezer, with ice crystals sticking out on some whereas other bags have frozen into blocks of weed without apparent frost.

I figure with the ones with visible frost I can stick on some paper and put em in a cracked open low temp oven until the frost is gone, then dry these normally till they can be refrozen until needed.

Dunno what to do with the "bricks" though - thoughts? Should I just go ahead and thaw them in the oven as with the others?

Has anyone done this before with good results?

tl,dr: stuck wet bud in freezer. Now I need to thaw and dry. ideas?

    Make hash.

    I recommend dry ice hash.

Freezing the buds made the cells expand and burst, they will decay when thawed.

Watch a fruit do this someday to Understand. The cell wall is destroyed and decay is almost instantaneous.

Hash or edibles is your best bet.

  3. These buds are hash material for a iso run for edible use. Wasn't planning on smoking the bud or hash for exactly the reason you've described - end product will be sub-par regardless; who am I kidding though? if the color comes out OK I'm probably still smoking it.

I just need to get em dry before any rot sets in

  4. Sometimes when im trying to "cure bud" (i say that in quotes because its not curing) ill put it into a toaster oven on 80-110 and keep a close eye on it. It allows me to smoke fresh cut buds to "test" it.

You might try to take some now and do a test run on a tray. Then if that succeeds try a test run in your oven. Time is of the essensce if youve pulled them from the freezer. Careful not to go too high on heat, id say 100 degrees to 105f is maximum as thats room temp on a hot day where I am.

  5. Fresh Frozen BHO, I would only recommend with stainless tubes as the glass ones could possibly have a blowout

  6. Good lord Jimmy Carter. I recall you running your batches through ISO? Is that how you receive such quality?

Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum

  7. no thats BHO. I have made QWISO that color before though, probably have a picture somewhere

  8. Damn JC. That's some beautiful stuff. Gotta get my hands on material younger than two years; and some damn nugs. Glorious golden yummy!

I guess I can blow some BHO instead of running ISO. You did that with frost laden nugs? Lots of liquid still present?

ISO wouldn't work that way though, right (without a winterization)? All the ice/water and degraded cell walls would leech in a lot of nasties I would think.

Shoot if I dont have to dry the nugs I better get to drinking more vodka! Handles make great storage for the freezer till I have a clean pyrex ready, heh.

Appreciate the post, even if it makes me jelly

  9. yeah you can do it with qwiso, just have to make sure to keep everything frozen for a long time before running it. also make sure your freezer is on its coldest setting, I overlook that sometimes. Try a dry ice bath even, way colder than your freezer. you could freeze your shit for a like 6hr on the DI and then just pour the liquid over your nugs and let them sit for a couple mintues and then strain and do a second wash. IPA gets pretty thick when its cold so idk how it will react  with the temps that the dry ice would make

  10. Huh, that's news to me. I suppose if the ice never thaws then all the nasties stay in the bud - chucking my IPA into the freezer! Good to know! :D

Couple minutes though? I usually (at RT) fill a 500 ml beaker with green, cover with alcohol, and immediately strain it off into another beaker. I know the cold affects dissolution but iono. Ill give the minute(s) run a chance, see what happens.
