What Is justice ?

Discussion in 'Philosophy' started by THEeric, Aug 20, 2014.

  1. What is it? and Why?

    ... no dictionary definitions  :devious:

  2. "There's no justice, it's just us..in fact, watchin yo back, it be a must"

I'd liken true justice to karma. No political meanderings necessary.

  3. When someone is rightfully set back in their place or given justice. Will probably have a very similar meaning to most blades

  4. if someone kills someone else...  there can be no justice.  ?

  5. I've often asked myself the same thing.

Who am I to decide justice? Who is a court of peers to decide?

If my Neighbor kills his brother, should I go arrest my nieghbor? I don't know the details. Is my Neighbor dangerous to me?

Did his brother fuck his wife? Would I be destroying the lives of his wife and kid by getting him arrested?

What if the wife doesn't want justice? What if the brothers family doesn't want to press charges.

Even if it seems logical to justify consequences I often find even justice perpetuates a cycle of violence

  6. no matter how severe the punishment is for the offender, the deceased can not be brought back...

  7. I feel the best way to solve the problem of crime is to rise the people up to the point where there is no need to commit crimes.

Lots of studies show that crime rates are higher when people are impoverished or oppressed (usually both)

  8. Justice is a function of maintenance for the morality of a system. Excellent justice, is excellent morality.

  9.
As a society more efficiently punishes criminals, crime in the society decreases?

  10. Not really, it is the manner in which justice is applied.

  12. If justice is eye for an eye, don't go torturing a person instead of taking the eye. Recompense what is due against the criminal, no more no less. A murderer is a murderer, so kill him. A rapist is next to a murder, kill him. Thieves should pay back what is due twice over. Recompense.

  13. What about the falsely accused? Unfortunate victims?

  14. Justice is when some 'wrong' someone has committed comes full circle to claim them.

  15. I think how people might feel is payback or an eye for an eye

Recompense (or the attempt of) for a victim through punishment of the victimizer - though justice itself may be an objective notion, the suitability of the degrees to which it is handed out are obviously up to subjective preference, and you won't receive any kind of useful answer in that regard.

  17. Justice is subjective, some will want an eye for a eye and others will be able to forgive.

  18.
Justice is just something a person who feels victimized manifests as something necessary. Justice does not solve any problems or help any situations. Sometimes pain is just meant to be felt.

  20. I think when it comes to crimes they should be mostly handled by the ones close to the victom, or if the cercomstances allow it, the victem themselfs.

Let's say somebody killed my father.
If if had done something terrible, then I may excuse the murder. But if I believe it to be unjustified, or without reason, I should damn well have the right to deal with the murderer.

Why do we let other people decide the fates of something that in no way involves them.

If somebody attacks you, your family, your close and loved ones, then I will always believe then you decide their fate. Bloodright, and that's how it should be.

The definition of Justice is fairness. It's not fair for somebody to do something to somebody and not expect it done to them.
