300W Ebay Led In 36X20X62 Tent Questions

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by InTheLandDownUnder, Aug 20, 2014.

  1. Greetings,

I wanted to run a question by some of you regarding my ebay grow tent and led fixture.

    Tent: http://www.ebay.com/itm/170926219115?var=470357529618

    Light: http://www.ebay.com/itm/131261424419

Will this be satisfactory?  I am not actually growing MJ in this, but a lot of knowledge regarding this topic seems to be in the MJ communities.  I understand the LED would not put out as much light as a more expensive brand however I figured for the space it should suffice correct?

If nothing else I can always get a second fixture which I believe I can fit into the tent.

As far as ventilation I will have the following:

    Exhaust: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181379661233?var=480369223580

    Intake: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221524284032

I believe this will be more than efficient for the setup.  Only reason I went overkill is I wanted as much air going in as out.  The space I am using is a bit humid and gets a bit warm (75-85) so cooling will be paramount.

And finally the grow medium I will use is: http://supercloset.com/product/hydro-supply/superponic-8-hydroponic-grow-system/

  2. For a 3x3 (which this is close enough to) 400-440w is actually more recommended for the area vs 300.

I think 300w led in that is great, 400-450 would be if you wanted it absoultly perfect. If ur not growing bud its probaly not worth paying a higher electricty bill for more watts. Also it's clearly 3x2 actualy slightly smaller.

  4.

Yeah im hoping the one less extra foot will make up for the lack of wattage.  If its a little below a perfect level Im ok with that.  And yeah its really 3x1.8.

I guess I didnt really need the charcoal filter but thats what I get for using MJ growing information to build it lol.  Oh well no worries doesnt matter I wanted a top notch cheap build lol.  I started out buying some aerogardens and realized they wont be able to grow any large pepper or other plants if I wanted.

Everything comes in tomorrow so should be fun setting it all up.  I want to do a very clean install but not sure I will have everything I need as far as hanging materials.

  5. I'd still recommend the charcoal filter for flowering. It wont be a lot of use during veg, but during flowering you're going to wish you had one, especially if you have neighbors.. :)

  6. Well recieved one of my 4" inline fans and god damn its loud.  It does move a lot of air though.  Really probably overkill for my application so I just bought a fan controller so I can dial it down.  I probably will only need one of these blowing air in.

Can you attach a power strip to the fan controller to control multiple fans at once?  I doubt it but thought I would ask.

You want to use the inline fans to blow hot air out, not in. Use some normal clip on fans to get airflow moving ont he inside. So attach it to your carbon filter if you have one, and use it as an exhaust system to get all the hot air out. Physics will take care of the rest. Since you'll be blowing air out, air will be sucked in from your bottom vents (and breathable material) by way of physics. :)

I think 300w will be perfect for veg better then a 400w now that I think about it. If u use a 18/6 light cylce because plants would stay too small and compact with a 400w led. If you could throw in a 45w 2700k cfl in there with the led during flowering that would be sexy but unnecessary. I personaly would perfer a 300w led in there over a higher watt led unless I was gonna do 16/8 light cycle in veg which would be unorthodox. I also wouldn't be suprised if 300 watts was actualy too powerful and u needed too drop down too a 17/7 light cycle in veg. Considering that it should have a coverage area of 8 feet in veg 6 feet in flowering. If it's close to as powerfull as this 300w name brand led  http://www.amazon.com/Apollo-Horticulture-GL100LED-Spectrum-Growing/dp/B00FGG1HDM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408701918&sr=8-1&keywords=apollo+led+300w

Picked up a 6" fan and placed it into the tent.  I stuck it in the back right next to an open 4" intake port.  I recieved the 4" inline fan + carbon filter tomorrow and my speed controller monday.  So it will be done shortly. I would like it take pics of it to post but I have no camera right now.

Will report back with temp changes soon.

Sounds good thanks.  I believe most of these types of LED panels are all made by the same Chinese factories just some are branded and some not.  I am referring to only LED panels that are around 300W and only about 100-200 dollars.  From what ive learned they all pull around 130-180 watts but are under driven 3w leds.  Not sure how all that translates into light output though.  As I understand it wattage doesnt really mean much(to a degree) like HPS and CFL.

  10. Looks like you got yourself situated, huzzah! :D The LED's are not bad for the grow on a budget. If you can afford it, I'd recommend a California Light Works one though! Good luck dude!

  11. Well after installing the 4" fan + carbon filter (which was a pain becuase I didnt have the right tools) temps seem to be a managble 80-85 degrees.  And that is with the tent inside my closet with the door closed.  Im relying on convection to get airflow.  Exhaust is going out the top and down to the floor.  Back in through the bottom tent vents.  Seems to be working.

Only other thing I might be worried about is co2 levels later on.  Oh and humidity is a decent 45-50%.

  12.
I don't think you're understanding a crucial point here..OP isn't growing weed. He has stated at least twice that he will not be growing marijuana, but could use the expertise of marijuana growers in setting up a grow tent.

He has literally no use for a carbon filter whatsoever..why does he need to filter out the smell of growing peppers or tomatoes?

  13.
Actually its a good thing I did get it because my temps are manageable now.  Although I guess pepper plants like the heat so maybe not.  And it also served to GREATLY reduce fan noise as a bonus.

While we are on the subject the smell coming from the filter is almost sorta sweet or something.  Is that normal?

Filter doesn't have anything to do with temperature..it serves one purpose, to scrub the air of the strong smell of flowering weed. The fan you added will definitely help your temperatures out, that's what they are for after all.

I could see it muffling some of the fan noise. Not too sure about the sweet smell you are getting though.

  15.
Yeah I know now that I didnt NEED the filter.  But like I said im glad I did thought because of the noise level.  The closet I stuck this thing in is in my bedroom.  So I didnt want a loud ass fan going while im trying to sleep lol.

I just need to get my speed controller in tomorrow and dial it done just a bit, cause I can still hear a hum.  Hopefully that doesnt impact temps too much.

Ive also been thinking about cutting a hole into the drywall to vent out.  There is a wall my bedroom and closet share (right of the doorway looking at the closet from the bedroom) that I am thinking about using.  I figure it should vent somewhere either up into the attic (which there is a door in that closet) or where ever, so long as I get rid of the heat.

Problem is, im renting an apartment.  Im pretty confident I could patch it before moving out, only thing im worried about is them doing an inspection and seeing it.  But they wouldnt really have any reason to go into the closet for an inspection unless they are being nosy.

  16.
You are running LED bro there's no reason to cut a hole in your drywall for it. If you were running a 1000w HID light, then yes, definitely. The LED being on doesn't raise your room temperature that much right?

  17.
Its getting pretty warm in there.  Plus Im thinking about going to a higher wattage LED and/or a second one.  With the way it is now it will get super hot.

Warm in your room or the grow tent?

You are already buying another LED? Lol man you are gonna spend all this money on lights and not grow any bud? I find that kinda hard to believe fella  :ey:

  19.
In the tent and the closet.  The air is just being recycled so its a negitive feedback loop.  And I just like to do things right so to speak lol.

  20.
Yeah I get what you're saying about the air being recycled..I just figured with the LED it wouldn't be that much heat in the first place, so you could probably just leave your bedroom door open and fan on if it gets toasty.

It will actually save you on heating in the cold months so think about that  :smoke:  Many weed growers use their lights as a source of heat in winter..if they're gonna be on anyway why the hell not get a second use out of them?
