I have been wondering why seedlings do not get nute burns? I use a fully fertilized soil, and I would think that in the very beginning of the grow you would see some signs of overfeeding, but no... On the other hand, as soon as I start adding fertilizer (low concentrations) after 4 weeks or so, then i get miniscule nut burns VERY easily.
Your using a fert with nutes already in it and your adding more nutes to the mix, that's why. One or the other, not both. Differerent strains are going to require different nute solutions and strengths, best way is to mix nutes yourself and learn what your strains thrive on. Cheers
I agree by adding your own ferts to a soil with ferts in it you are doubling your ferts and PPM. Seedlings need very little ferts to do well....some need none! I have burned them with pre-fertilized soil before. Let it get a little bigger before you feed it. shag
Well, it kind of does, but it is more of a pondering than a real question, perhaps.... By logic: Day 1 - Fully fertilized soil = no nute burn Day 30 - The fertilizer already in there should have been eaten up by now Day 31 - I add fertilizer to the now non-fertile soil = instant nute burn Is the fertilizer I add more effective than what the factory adds? Or maybe: The root system must be developed to a point where nute burn is allowed?
Seedlings do get burned, I see it regularly in the beginners section. Perhaps the nutrient content was in the right area and when you added more nutes it was too much. It's quite logical What fertiliser did you use? And at what % of the dosage on the label?
I hear ya, GoldGrower; but the thing is I never got rid of the nute burn through the whole last grow.... All new growth showed signs of SLIGHT overfeeding [like 1-2mm of the tips]. And I kept lowering my concentrations down to at least 1/4 of recommended dosage, with two pure water feedings in between. I am starting to think that I do not need any extra fertilizer at all... There is also fertilizer added due to the extra soil used for every repotting. Perhaps that is enough? Edit: Oh, and I use BioBizz of course!
Yeah if you are potting up with fresh soil that should contain enough for a while. When I used to use bio-bizz I never went over 3ml per litre, even with large fully mature plants. Is their dosage still 2-5ml per litre? My bottles are pretty old now, I don't use them anymore
It goes up to 4ml for the latter part of the grow these days. But there is a whole array of products which are supposed to be combined, so the cumulative "shit vs water" ratio gets pretty high.
