First Grow, Macgyver And Stealth

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by brightmre, Aug 15, 2014.

  1. This is my first grow, and I'm new to the forums as well. I spent the last couple of days reading posts but I'm sure I'm missing a lot. Feel free to give suggestions.
I'm doing the journal so I can hopefully keep the first rule and not talk about it in RL.

I picked up a hitchhiker and he gave me about 50 seeds. I have no idea what kind they are and it's prolly bag seed. They didn't look that healthy and the germ rate will likely be low so I just planted them all. I'm definitly not keeping 50 plants.

The box is a rubbermaid 30 gallon lined with reflective floor padding.

    -Bag seed
-custom soil (i mix my own potting mix for houseplants)
-nutrients (haven't decided, will likely go with epsom salts and manure tea)
-the space is currently about 2x3x2 but i'll expand it as the plants grow, it will max out at 2x3x6
-right now i have a glowpanel 45 (which gets a lot of shit, but i like it just fine for vegetables it'll probably work, if not, then i'll go with cfls)
    -one broke down intake fan

I haven't spent any money yet, but will order some carbon to make a filter, a timer, and a temp/humidity gauge. Maybe $40.

A totally stealth closet. Ok. So maybe it's in the glowing box, I'm going to work on that.

    A thrilling picture of... dirt.

Question: How many plants can I grow nicely in this space? I'd like to do well by them. They'll be topped and trained.

I think it will take about 6 weeks to tell sex if they grow nice and healthy. At that point you could fit maybe 2 or 4 of them in there. Look into lst techniques and start right away. When waiting for sex(of the plants!) you should lst rather then top them. Sex will usually be visible at the 7th or 8th node. I'd say just keep the healthiest ones and cull the smaller ones as you need more room. I'd keep them in small pots 5"x5" at the biggest, until they show sex.

I'd leave it on 24/0 until you get a timer. They need a nice solid light schedule...alot people try to manually turn the lights on/ff each day...lol

good luck with your grow man, there's tons of info in the micro link in my sig if you feel like doin' some learnin'  :smoking:

  3.
Thanks for the info, I was going to try and turn them off :)

  4. hehe..don't be that guy. Go get yourself a timer!   :smoke:

I'm happy to help if you have any other questions or whatever.

for a small diy filter I recommend the pencil holder style filter. Also known as 'the easiest diy carbon filter zen style'

  5. I'm in the process of transplanting the seedlings. I had 17 come up. Only eight of the larger pots will fit into the grow space. Statiscally at least two of them have to be female, so I'm good.
    But, what about the poor little seedlings that don't fit? What am I to do with them.... hmmmm (;

    Pics to come.

  7. Just logged in and found out, thanks for the heads-up! :)
Now...should I start over or keep this grow going. I think I'll finish it out, especially considering that my plants have names now...
    Pics soon, promise.
