A serious scientist in the 80's put out a hypothesis about there being a brown dwarf (a very dim type of star that we wouldn't be able to see from earth) that is the suns twin coming around. His idea was that since most stars we observe are binary stars (two stars that orbit each other) that the sun must have a binary also.
