Mining On The Moon

  1. So I was searching through channels and came across the science channel, I turned it on and the show is about people who want to mine on the moon.
This honestly makes me a little upset now that were killing the earth, people want to start killing to moon.

  2. I think the moon is pretty much dead as it is..

    Mobile mumbling..

  3. Your name is deceiving, you sound mildly upset.

If they're onto the moon, and tired of Earth while it's still supporting us, then great! Perhaps they'll move on to Mars before they destroy the moon.

  5. Sweet I hope they find more diamonds so we can enslave some aliens

  6. It would be hilarious if the ENTIRE moon wound up being that powdery sediment, and the core was just Tin..

  7. I've heard rumors that the elves may have moved the Keebleer factory to the moon after the IRS found out the tree was a drug front.

the only way mining could do much is if we mined it so heavily we reduced its mass to the point we threw it out of its orbit

  9. I believe China will attempt.to mine there. They're very ambitious but I feel they're going to rush it and explode halfway.

  10. that would be better still bad..but better if they went to Mars.

that could happen but more of less wouldn't mining on the moon mess with the environment on earth? With the super moon look at all the flooding that has been happening.
I wonder what disasters would happen if they mined the moon.

yeah that's what they were saying is that china is way ahead of us with the technological advances for drilling the moon. I hope they mess up and all they're equipment malfunctions.
NASA is hiring privatized mining companies to go to the moon and start mining. That part I read online because mainstream media would never say that.

  12.
yeah that too, although thats also related to reducing the mass which affects the gravity.

  13. and affecting the gravity of the moon affects the environment of earth, right?

  14. It would probably take massive amounts of weight reduction for us to notice any significant changes I think.

If the moon got lighter, I believe it would distance itself from Earth at an even faster rate.

  15. killing the moon? Seriously?

  17. If the moon got lighter it would come to earth

The reason the moon spins out, is because its centrifugal force is greater than the gravitational force. The centrifugal force is a function.of.weight and speed.

Lowering either speed or weight would cause the moon to fall to earth

  18. Ah interesting, in my head I was imagining that earth would have trouble grasping a lighter object, but that makes more sense.

It's just a front. China's success rate for space missions is very low. And a moon mission is very hard. China is just trying to look like they're supremely advanced. But I do support them trying.

And don't be fooled by NASA either. They're sneaky. Mining the moon would be a great resource and looks very good to businesses for making a profit. Most scientific studies don't make any immediate profit. So NASA knows that to get attention to space and the moon for research, lunar observatories and all that good stuff, they need to give a reason for those people that don't care about science but want money. That's where the mining, resources, and profit part comes in.

  20. The legality of this would be very interesting to say the least.  I do believe that there is a worldwide treaty that states that Earth's Moon does not belong to any one country or individual.  (Edit, I am correct http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outer_Space_Treaty).

That said, I would think any corporation that would have enough resources to actually get to the moon and back could function autonomously without interference from any one nation state.  Until they tried to militarize it.
