I had this same mindset up until recently. I used to think when celebrities died that it wouldn't and shouldn't effect me the same way a person I knew personally died. But when James Gandolfini died that mindset went out of the window. I don't know why. It just really made me sad.
i've never cried about a celebrity dying. some hit me more than others. i can name hella celebrities that i never ever ever want to die. all that talent gone. i grew up watching/listening to this person. i only wish i could thank them. but i'd only cry if i knew them personally, and they really meant something to me.
I get more upset when female celebrities butcher their faces and breasts. Keep in mind I consider the vast majority of celebrities to be scum.

A celebrity I don't know? Nah I wouldn't cry, not even close. But the ones I really like and admire (MCA, Robin Williams) it hits me like a punch to the gut. But I get over it quickly enough and just feel bad for their families. Every death is tragic to someone.

I still remember when Micheal JAckson died... So many moms crying..just so many, I did not have enough shoulders that day. I'd be pretty upset if Adam Sandler or Eminem died, but i wouldn't cry.
i cant recall crying to any celebrity deaths, maybe when Ram Dass or the Dalai Lama dies i might. i get much more upset over normal people dying and being killed than i do celebrities.
