Scars 250W Cmh Micro Grow

Discussion in 'Micro Grows' started by Scars, Aug 8, 2014.

  1. Here's another quick update!

I fed her last night before going to bed and took some quick shots. Didn't get a chance to post till now.

The aromas I am getting are getting stronger by the day. The woody aroma is still predominate, with a strong creamy scent. There is citric overtones with a very heavy mustyness in the background.

The colas are getting so big and heavy that I need to stake up a few colas. Also, this plant is officially the stickiest plant I have ever grown! Just giving her feedings or clearing dead plant material leaves my hands, forearms, elbows covered on sticky, gooey resin.

Looks like the end product will be top shelf.

On a side note, I know that a lot of people say that Ceramic Metal Halide HIDs do not produce density compared to HPS. Also, that CMH buds are more "leafy" compared to HPS. I don't really agree with those statements and do not see a reason to use an HPS bulb. Any thoughts?

Anyway, I took these shots yesterday which was DAY 44 FLOWER:

Unfortunately I was never too good at keeping journals. I can post a pic later tonight when i'm done with my day.

With regards to your cmh question, I believe that's the modified bulb that puts out a combination of hps and mh spectrum, correct? I've always been interested in those. Your plants sure don't look whispy, those nuggets are most definitely dense and full. If it works that good for ya, why change a good thing?

I like my t5 and hps set up. Makes it possible for me to keep plants cycling straight into flower.

  3. Yeah, the bulb I have is rated at 4000 Kelvin versus the 2200-3000k most HPS bulbs run. I used this bulb all through the grow phase and all through the flowering phase.

After using this bulb for about a year now and sampling some the products it has produced for me, I am not switching over to HPS. The only thing I want to find is a 250w CMH bulb in 3000k. I know there are a few floating around.

I used CFLs and T5s in the past and they also work great. But I just hated that they never had any penetrating power. Same thing with LEDs. I used a 3W chipset LED and produced yummy, colorful, potent bud, but the weight was just not there.

In my opinion, regardless of whether you are a micro grower or not, it is always best to try and fit some sort of HID setup if you want weight without much effort. I would even use a 50-150 watt HPS/CMH over CFL/LEDs any day of the week.

A lot of people stress about temps with HPS and with good reason. I have noticed that the CMH bulb does not produce the kind of heat and HPS bulb does. It doesn't "throw" heat. I have suffered light burn from getting close to the bulb but that is if I am closer than 3 inches.

My temps sometimes peaks at 92 F but usually I am at a balmy 80 F during lights on and 65-70 F during lights out. I am pretty micro with about 2x2x2 ft. including the pot. I still managed to stuff a 250 watter in there and the results are not too bad if I say so myself.

Post a pic of your lady bro, I would love to see her! I need to feed later tonight when the lights come on, I'll post an update then.

    Peace!

  4. Haha, sorry it took me so long man, finals and whatnot... just had another look at your girls and they are god damn pretty!

Here's my lady a few days ago when I started flushing.

Sorry I can't upload any more pics, my phone's not letting me. I'll hop on my computer and try and get some more soon.

  5. Dude, that's really nice! How do you keep her so green and healthy in flower like that? What are you feeding? What strain is that?

That plant looks sexy enough to be a Christmas tree! You should decorate it!

Ok, here is another update on DAY 53 FLOWER.

What can I say, I am just astonished at the productivity of this plant. She just keeps getting chunkier by the day. All the large colas need staking due to size and weight.

Majority of the hairs have turned red already with about 20-30% white hairs left. I am starting to see some cloudy trichomes already but still mostly clear. Very resinous plant.

It's interesting how the aromas change so dramatically in a matter of days. I am getting a strong heavy must in the background with no skunk smell present at all. The flowers smell very hashy, creamy, and somewhat sweet. And as I mentioned already, there is a strong woody aroma that is just so fresh and tantalizing.

There is more to it but it too complex for me to pinpoint at this time. I know there is some sweet citrus in there somewhere along with a few other aromas I catch from time to time. Like it said, very complex.

I was wondering if anyone wants to estimate harvest window yet. I think another month will do me good but this plant really is a fast maturing. What do you guys think? Also, anyone want to take a guess at yield? I am really hoping I can pull a QP.

I took a couple of pictures. Enjoy and feel free to give me your input!

I would say take it to at least 9 weeks. It will just continue to get bigger and produce more crystals.

  8. Subbed good sir.

Any chance you'd share your organic soil recipe? Been wanting to do proper organic for awhile.

If it's in here somewhere lemme know I haven't had time to look through everything but from the pics everything looks really solid. Will look forward to this one.

  9. Yeah, probably 2-4 weeks. I'm still waiting for the late harvest swell. Thanks for your input.

    Thanks man.

    My soil is recycled.

I have a large bin in my back yard where I have soil. I add all kinds of kitchen scraps, other compostable items over time. I originally started with this mix when I first made the batch.

    -2 bag Roots Organic
    -2 bag Roots Earthworm Casting
    -2 bag Humus/Steer Compost
    -2 Coco Coir Bricks
    -5 lbs Alfalfa Meal
    -5 lbs Kelp Meal
    -5 lbs Green Sand
    -4 lbs total guano
    1 lb Mexican BG
    1 lb Jamacian BG
    1 lb Indonesian BG
    1 lb Peruvian SBG

I feed with teas since I am totally root bound but it is still not enough for this plant. I think I need to make a new batch or something.

I have noticed I am getting a build up of something in the soil. The burned leaf tips seem like a salt build up but I don't know where the salt is coming from. Maybe my tap water is funky, I do let the water sit for 2 days before using. Maybe the tea I am feeding is too strong. I don't know.

But hell, the buds look nice and are progressing nicely. I'm just going to lighten the tea and start to finish this plant out in the next few weeks.

  10. Yeah they're beautiful girls. Most my plants usually have tips showing burn. Kind of how I ride the line between feeding 'em well and over feeding. Luckily haven't dealt with much burn. Even autos can take more than some will lead you to believe. That or I've been real lucky.

And thanks for the dl on your mix. Want to start some super soil and compost. What do you do with your compost in the winter? Or do you not have to deal with that where you're from. Always wondered this, aside from bringing it in of course.

  11. Scars, man oh man, that is one beautiful girl you have there ! It looks like its in the very prime right now, dont you dare chop early !! :D

I also agree that CMH is the bomb, too bad they are getting increasingly harder to find around my area. But for real micros (e.g. a pc case) i still stand by led lights and plant training.

By the way, how do you take care of the smell ? Bought a premade carbon filter ? what about the noise levels ?

  12. That's funny, I've heard some say 4000k is useless to grow pot. Bullshit it is!

No problemo dude. Thanks for input.

I live in south Texas and it stays pretty warm year round. I just leave it in the backyard with a cover.
    Thank you man!

Yeah, I was getting a little frisky. What I usually like to do is wait for the leaves to fall off naturally. I don't know if I can wait that long though. I'm willing to go another 4-5 weeks at the absolute most. Hoping for 2 weeks.

As far as smell. I am so glad I pre-planned my grow room setup. It would have been a disaster otherwise.

I sectioned off the top corner of my closer so I could vent directly into the attic. I hooked up a carbon filter in the attic but never ended up needing it. All the smell gets trapped in the attic in which no one ever goes. There is still a problem. When my lights turn off, so does my fan. They are both on the same timer. I don't want the fan to run continuously and burn out so I let it "rest" while lights off. This is between 8 am-8 pm. My entire room, bathroom, hallway stunk of weed during this period. I went and got a small can of ONA Block and placed it right outside the intake of my grow room. Now, there is no smell whatsoever at anytime, anywhere. Lights on or off.
I mean, who knows if it's really bullshit or not. I might yield a pound with a 250w HPS, lol...but I doubt it. I could buy the HPS equivalent to test but why should I? I am satisfied with the potency, aromas, flavors, density...So why change what's working?

  14. Almost ready at day 61 flower:

A lot of leaves have been maturing and falling off. She looks ready for harvest soon. Maybe another week or so. I am excited! The aromas are really spewing out and she has a very Chinese hash plant look. Very exotic with no skunk smell at all.

  15. Dang man! Those ladies are lookin pretty good! Excellent work. How much longer until you harvest? Got some foxtailing going on there I see.

  16. I harvested on Christmas Eve which was flower day 65!!

I have been trimming all early Christmas morning and today I finally shut down the grow room to let my harvest dry, then into the jars they go!

I can't tell you guys how much my fingers and my back hurt from trimming so long....14 hours worth. The buds are so damn sticky and gooey and smell so strong with trimming. The end product will be very nice, I am sure! So much work but well worth it, you will see...Here are a few pics I took!

  17. Holy shot dude looks like a great harvest :bongin:

  18. Thanks bro!

It's still drying. I am drying it in a cool pile inside my dark grow room with the fan on. It's drying out nice and slow. Hopefully it will help the terpenes mature and become more aromatic!

I am excited to know my dry weight! Will post results when I have them.

Well, things have dried nicely and are finally curing in jars!

    Final Dry Weight:

    -200.7 grams or 7.17 ounces
    -5.6 ounce of frosty trim

That is 0.8 grams per watt, not too bad for CMH!

    That's a wrap folks!
