Guidance Needed - Finding Dealer, No Contacts

    Please advise how I should proceed.  I am an absolute first-timer. I have never used marijuana.  My wife is in unremitting pain from a spinal disorder and I have reached the point of wanting to try pot for her.
     
    The problem is, I really don't know where to start - in terms of locating product.  And for a variety of reasons - professional and personal - I would prefer for this to done without involving tapping personal contacts to get a lead on sources.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who has ever had this dilemma, since there are circumstances and situations that would make it problematic and uncomfortable for people to know what you are doing.  We might wish it were otherwise and some might be inclined to tell me to swallow my pride and man up and do it through contacts. But that is, if you can trust me here, not really an option at this point.
     
    So, that leaves me wondering where to look to buy from strangers (or let's call them new friends that I haven't met yet!)  I have this ridiculous picture of myself lurking in alleys whispering "Weed?" to anybody who passes by and looks likely (or peaceful!).  But there's got to be a better way.
     
    Start frequenting tie-dye stores and buy a bunch of shirts until they get to know me?  Hang around head shops buying everything else under the sun until they get the hint?  Get a 4:20 tattoo on my forehead?  Start wearing a Grateful Dead/Bob Marley/Snoop Dog t-shirt?  Get an "I'd Rather Be in Colorado" bumper sticker?
     
    I'm kidding (mostly) on those of course.
     
    But seriously, where to go, who to drop a hint to?  Can anyone teach me the secret handshake and the double-secret password?
     
    I just want to quietly buy 1/4 ounce or so, make some delicious fudgy brownies and see if this helps.

    Does your state offer medical marijuana? That would obviously be the best approach.

    If not then ask around college campuses or possibly hang around gas stations as nonchalantly as possible and when someone buys papers or blunts ask them where you can get some trees explain you're dry and just looking for a new connect. Other than that good luck.

    I'd say get some seeds and get to work would be your best bet

    Unfortunately it's pretty hard to do without taking some risks. (That means legal risks and or risk of getting ripped off)  With an ill family member, it may be worth it.  Actually, invincible jets is right - your best bet is probably to get some seeds and learn to grow your own.
     
    Otherwise.... If there are tie-dye and head shops around then yeah, you could start asking discretely.  I've heard also that asking people who work in restaurants is also a good strategy.
     
    But otherwise, you're way better off going through someone you know.  If they know it is for your wife who is ill I don't see why people wouldn't be understanding.
     
    There are also ways to do this online, but that's gonna require some savvy.

    Just go to a headshop and ask people who are buying weed related stuff

    Go to the shittiest neighborhood you can find. And find the guy who looks completely out of place, That's your guy.

    I'd go to a bar near a college campus around happy hour. Buy a round, make a couple friends and ask if they know anyone. Another sure fire place is any type of reggae festival. Be careful there though as there's likely a lot of undercover cops.

    I don't think you'll have much luck around a headshop because people will likely think you're a narc. And going to a shitty neighborhood, you'll probably be taken advantage of, especially if you don't know know what to look out for when purchasing.
