First Time Grow 08/07/2014

Discussion in 'Outdoor Grow Journals' started by fuzzipeg, Aug 7, 2014.

  1. I figured it would be a good time to return given I've finally bit the bullet and ordered some seeds because the entire state is completely dry right now.  Downtown, campuses, suburbs, the herb is MIA and it's making me very sad.

After checking these forums for a bit, I decided on purchasing my seeds through Attitude Seed Bank since I'd like to mix and match a few different types with my first grow.  Here is what I ordered and what should arrive in the next week or so:

    Purchased:
    1x Lowryder Seeds Easy Ryder (Lowryder#2 x AK47)
    3x Auto Seeds Berry Rider
1x Bomb Seeds AUTO THC Bomb
4x Female Seeds AUTO Speed Bud

    Freebies:
1x Sweet Seeds Cream Mandarine Fast Version
1x Sweet Seeds AUTO Dark Devil
    1x Female Seeds White Grapefruit

Since this is my first grow and I've got the exact opposite of a green thumb, here are some of the factors I considered when purchasing my seeds:
    - feminized because I am a newb
    - autoflowering because I will be growing outdoors
    - short plant height for camouflage amongst taller plants in my garden
    - fruity rather than skunky varieties to cut down on odor (also, yum)
    - fast flowerers because the less time I'm given to accidentally kill them, the better
\nThe freebies are tempting, though only the Dark Devil is an autoflowerer, so I'll save them for future indoor grows when I'm a bit more of an apprentice.  The Dark Devil looks so fucking sick, too.  Patience.
\nIt's still in the eaaaaaarly stages, so I do not have a solid plan yet for my soil mix, nutrients, setup, which seeds to start with, etc. I'm going to be spending the next few days figuring out just that.  I'll be sure to update this to document the whole process from seed reception to (hopefully) harvest.  Fingers crossed.

Thanks for reading and I hope to give you guys an entertaining grow journal!  :smoke:

Sweet man, I subbed to it. Looks like we're dealing with similar weather so it'll be a great point of reference.

  3. I recommend purchasing a grow book or two. I have both Ed Rothensal and Jirge Cervantes books. These autors are experts and their books will reach you just about everything you need to know to grow quality meds. They are the best investment you can make for your garden. Read the books cover to cover a few times in order to absorb as much as possible. Once you have a basic understanding of growing start with a few plants and begin your experience. The mire you learn the better you will do and you will be prepared for issues as they happen. You will still have failures just keep trying and learning. Also you should check out grow journals and learn from them. Good luck with your adventures.

  4. YAY My seeds have made it across the pond! Very excite.  ^_^  I didn't know international tracking even existed until I ordered the little suckers.

  5. Processed in sorting facility in Chicago, so close!

  6. Reading about other's experiences with seeds going through Chicago customs, I'm starting to get a little worried.

  7. No text alerts all day, meaning there is no movement of my package the entire day, which never happens. RIP seeds

  9. I bought the guarantee, so they will reship if necessary.  I'm just running out of time in the growing season.  I posted to another thread about in-US seedbanks that ship fast and haven't received any comments, which I'm not too surprised about.

I'm on my computer now instead of my phone, so I have more of an ability to do my own search for a few.  Hopefully, I'll be golden in a few days with some seeds to start out with.  Gonna buy some peat plugs to germinate them and buy a few smart pots from some local nurseries.

I still haven't decided on a soil mix though haha, but I thought I could write down a few different types recommended on other grow journals here and run them past the nursery dudes.

  10. After reading a bit about Herbie's being fast shipping even if it was international, I decided to give them a try since they had a clearance deal on Lowryder#2 seeds.  I got 10 for Â£28.97.

Not feminized though, so I may die of an aneurysm if I try growing 5 at once and they all end up males.  Will update once I receive them.

I may check Nirvana to see if they have any super cheap 1 or 2 seed deals.

The irony is I'm going to be rolling in the seeds once I finally receive them all.

  11. Subbed good luck with the seeds and grow!

  12. Just arrived in OKC!  Fingers crossed I get my seeds later today!!

  13. Seeds came! Shipped 8/6 and received today 8/14! Cannot complain about that kind of speed from the UK to Oklahoma. I am so happy. I chose the repackaged seeds along with a random stealth option. The stealth item was not one on the list to choose from, so that may have helped. Their return address sticker was also very tiny and inconspicuous compared to all the other packing labels.

Either way, they came! I've now put so much time worrying about them making it here or not that I'm terrified to germ them on the off chance I fuck things up. lol

  17. Pretty adorable, pretty happy.

I was under the impression metadata was removed upon uploading to the site. I'll have to check my previous uploads just to be safe. Took this one with my tablet, so for sure no geotags

  18. Yeah, I'm good. The site resaves the photos with new image names and erased metadata so it's all good. That would be a huge and horrible oversight if they didn't!

  19. Just picked up my soils at the local organic and hydroponic store. Talked for a bit, they really know their stuff and were super helpful. Out of the 5gal smart pots though. I got two 10s and will put two plants in each.

Read a bit about homemade organic mixes and decided on premade ones because I don't have the time to nutrient cycle. I've kept fish and such I know how important that shit is and I don't want to fuck around. Got two bags of Fox Farm Ocean Forest and one of Light Warrior seed starter. They let me know the best time to transplant the seedling into the larger pot and I also got the Fox Farm fertilizer for when they start budding.

I did not know insect frass was worth so much or even useful. I feel idiotic, I just raised a bunch of silk mothers caterpillars on ash tree leaves and threw ALL the poop out. T_T

I also got two basil plants. ^_^ love me some fresh basil
