Money really isnt the issue. I have a 4x3x5 room/closet. im thinkin to grow about 4-5 plants. 5 max. but What is the better way to go? Would i need like 1: 150 watt HPS and some CFL's for side lightings? or just go with all HPS or all CFL's? whats my best bet? Also do HPS come in different spectrums? since i know you must simulate summer and fall for the plant.
for 5 plants you want about 400 watts atleast... and if you get a digitial ballast it runs blue bulb "MH" and a HPS bulb red for flower i start with cfl because you can put it close to the plant and get tight nodes i had a 5 inch plant with 8 nodes rofl just because of cfl then after youv vegged it for enough under cfl bud it on hps with cfls for side lighting i have 900 watts of power on 1 plant 500 true cfl watts and a 400 watt hps
Is that 4'x3' and 5' high? If so I would buy an air cooled 600w HPS for in there. Forget CFLs. To use enough CFLs to cover 12 square feet it would cost a fortune and would heat the tent a lot more than an air cooled 600w HPS. I had a 4'x3' tent with 2x 250w HPS lamps in it. It worked well but a 600w is much better because it adds another 50% more light with only an added 100watts of electricity You can get HPS is very slightly different spectrums but the difference in nothing really. If you buy a digital ballast or even better a dimmable ballast you can use a 600w MH in there for vegging. Well worth the extra £20 for the MH bulb

I think he means that the cost of the options mentioned need not influence the decision on which to choose. I don't think he means he has an unlimited supply of money. He said "money is not THE issue", not "money is not AN issue". But I have been wrong before

Can't beat T5 for veg and HPS for flower. I've tried all kinds of cheaper options but if you're gonna spend four months from sprout to spliff you might as well get nice thick colas with lots of resin than popcorn bud. My last yield from twelve four-cola plants under a 1k HPS was 1.5 lbs. -growtender

I changed nothing but the lights and went from ounces to pounds when i switched from cfls to hps. I love telling people that. If i was bill gates id start up a foundation to make sure people who need it can get good hps lights man.
Fluorescents do work well for vegging but you can veg bigger plants with a MH and the cost is just 20 bucks for the bulb and the work is just swapping bulbs. Buying a t5 fixture is a lot more money and work swapping it over. However, If he were to run a veg tent and flower tent at the same time I would be more inclined to agree with you
