First Grow - Questions W/ Pics

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by nbell1989, Aug 5, 2014.

1. Hi, attached are some pics of my grow setup and my plants currently. I purchased the femenized carmelicious strain from AMS. I am currently running 1 HPS 150 W, 2 100 W CFLS (added today). I have fertilized in the last 4 days with "Alaska Fish Fertilizer," I used 1 tbs. My plants are currently 15 days old and were transplanted to their forever pots 2 days ago. Any suggestions or things I am doing incorrectly? Please let me know. It's my first grow and I'm still learning.

4. Once they get a little bigger I would go closer with the lights, agreed. Otherwise looks good!

5. The bottom leaves on two of the plants are yellowing a bit on the tips and have some brown spotting. What is this a result of? I'm worried it's over fertilizing or over-watering... If so, what can I do?

6. Maybe nute burn I have never fertilised seedlings until they have aleast the third set of leaves including the water leaves .. Just saying

7. Don't over use the light. Keep it around 10-12 hours everyday.

8.
What are you saying exactly?

9.
I think you should real up a little on indoor lighting for growing cannabis, before giving advice to others about it.

...the blind leading the blind...

OP keep the lights on 24/0 at least for the next couple of weeks until you enter veg stage, then kick them back to 18/6.

10. Just telling the man what I grew up learning. He was asking for our opinions, not our smartass mouths. Sorry.

11.
It's not really an opinion.

But I'd love to know more about the way you were brought up using an unconventional lighting hour setup. Please share?

12. Unfortunately I can't quote what you posted, but I did happen to take a screenshot before you removed the post :confused_2:  S'ok I'll repost it for you mate.

The link that you referenced was:  http://www.marijuanagrowershq.com/light-cycles-and-flowering-cannabis/

In the second paragraph of that article, it mentions using light 18-24hrs during veg growth.

13. I'm currently running the lights 24/0 until the plants are around 12 - 14 in. tall. At this time I'll dial them back to 12/12 to enter the flowering stage. At least, that's the current plan from what I've read so far. Some guides said that the 18/6 stage wasn't necessary, so I figured I'd skip it. Day before last I re-potted the little ladies with some fresh soil and perlite. I also haven't watered them for two days as I read I should only be watering them every 3 - 4 days (I've been doing it lightly twice a day). Today they're looking much better, they still have the yellowing and brain spots on the bottom leaves, however the new growth is healthy and green with no damage. The plants are looking perkier. Also, I lowered the lights. They are currently about 7 inches above the plants. Attached are some pictures of my plants today:

Those huge pots with tiny plants is ridiculous. You better not over water or they will never grow. The plant cant drink the water and the roots rot off.

Solo cups are a growers best friend.

15. You don't need to flip into 12/12, you aren't going into flower. You need to veg your plants. The lights need to be changed to 18/6. Your plants can go to 18/6 now, I'd personally keep them under 24/0 for another week myself, but it sounds like you're trying to rush things. Or maybe you just don't understand the lightcycles, like the other blade I quoted above.

A quick simple guide....

24/0 = seedling stage (approx 2 weeks from beans popping)
18/6 = veg stage (3-6wks, your choice)
12/12 = flower stage (8-12wks, varies widely)

They look good though, you aren't overwatering I can tell the soil looks good. Could use some more light. Nice work, just get your light schedules down, and get a timer. It's the best $10 investment you'll make, so your lights go on/off consistently and automatically. Also make sure they are in a completely dark space. No light leaks in the dark period of 18/6 and 12/12.

16. I'm still learning about the light cycles. So I appreciate the help that. I'm going to go down to Ace this afternoon and pick up a timer for the lights and switch over to 18/6 now then. I was considering doing some aluminum sheets on the walls to reflect light, would this be helpful? Financially and space wise I cannot set up anymore lights in the growing area.

17. Get the timer, but not the aluminum. It isn't going to do miracles for you, and your white looking walls definitely aren't hindering you something fierce. Mylar or black/white film, as well as flat white paint, are generally the go to options for grows. Stuff like mirrors and aluminum (foil as well) aren't going to do much of anything for you. Mirrors trap light in the glass, as well as the backing. Aluminum foil (in my opinion) creates hot spots, or just not that great of a reflective surface. All in all it seems to be pretty negligible with hot spots, especially in grows our size.

18. Okay, I'll scratch the aluminum then. The wife is picking up a 24 hour timer from Wally World. I'm pretty excited to officially transition from the seedling to veg stage!

19. Also - I am trying to make this grow somewhat speedy. Off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure I was hoping to Harvest Sept. 6th (or so). Sooner would be awesome (have to throw less moolah at the weed man). But I don't want to sacrifice the quality of the bud either. Quantity is kind of important, but if I get 1 - 2 oz. per plant I'll be happy. That'll be enough to get me through the next grow without having to break the bank anymore. I figured this grow would be pretty experimental, and the next I'd have a better idea of what was goin on and I could take more time growing the bud to it's full potential. I'm not sure if 1 - 2 oz. per plant in a rushed grow is realistic though. I'm just goin off the specs of the strain which states 450 grams per plant is possible. So i figured "oh hey, 56 grams must be realistic."

20. I got 14 oz in 10 weeks off some autoflowers, they're great for quick harvests if that's what you need.

Do yourself a favor and get a brinks digital timer. Out of all the cheap timers I've bought, it's the only one that stays accurate and has lasted me years. Those push pin timers break on me all the time, I've had 2 of them that had a single weak pin that would push out, shutting the light off for 15 min, and the others either stopped working or were so far off each day that I stopped using them.
