Please Help Diagnose This Plant Heat Stress??

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by BrokeSmokes, Jul 31, 2014.

  1. Can anybody tell me whats going on with this plant? This plant was actually born with weird looking leaves like almost shriveled up with some odd colors on the new growths. Is this heat stress? The plant seems to be growing healthy other than some of the leaves that almost look bleached in a way.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Need a lot more info. What kind of lights are you using, how far away from the bulb is your plant? What kind of nutrients are you using, if any. Soil, Soil less, or Hydroponic? How old is your plant? What are your average temps and humidity? How big is your grow space?

Woops sorry I forgot to add that,

Soil: Miracle Gro Moisture Control (I know not the best)
Strains: OG Kush Mix from Bag seed
    Age: About 9 Weeks Old
    Lighting: 4x23w CFL 2700k
Ventilation: home depot X Air circulator fan. I have to leave the door cracked a bit to control temps.
Growbox: cardboard, about 3ft tall x 3ft wide X 2 ft thick. Inside has sun sheild
    Temp: 78-87
    rH: 30%-40%

If I forgot to mention anything as far as details please let me know. Thank you in advance.

  6. are you foliar spraying by any chance? heat stress they kinda "taco" up. It doesn't seem to be a big issue, althought that second pic it does look somewhat taco'd and pretty darn close to that bulb.

overall it's nice and green but more details would help others help you. good luck.

I am not using foliar spray. Well the cfls stay about 1-3 inches. Never have been an issue unless my plants grow to the light which happens here and there. From my understanding CFLs need to be within 6 inches to penetrate. can anyone confirm this??

  8. interesting, that 2nd pic, i had one do the EXACT same type of shriveling up, at about 2 weeks the leaves got realy thick and rubbery almost, stopped growin for a week and looked all fucked up, then after another week, it just started to grow again and look totally normal.  I donno what happened, all the others around it were fine, i think i mightve had heat damage when a light kind fell on it and messed it up and shocked it for a week, but i really dont know, i flushed it a few times and it turned out fine.  as for the newer one looks a lot better, did u transplant recently?  u said its old, do u give it any nutes?  after a couple months it could be out of nutes in the soil and youll need to use some (very lightly of course).  or if u are using them could be too many nutes.  Are the damaged spots close to where the lights are?  if your top/areas near lights are damaged you probably got a heat/lights too close problem.  If theres damage on the bottom or parts far away from the lights u got a nute problem.  BTW im assuming your watering it, cus obviously its gonna dry out like that if u dont water regularly.  people say every 3-4 days or so, but small buckets sometimes itll dry out in like a day in the heat so u might have to more often.

But if that were the case why arent the others the same? Also the first leaves that ever came out resembled it. Maybe its a genetic thing if thats possible. There hasnt been an issue with them though they are flowering well. And they arent in cups anymore they are in bottles lol (I know I rushed it) but they are clear as well havent had any issues.

  11. Heat stress is easily diagnosed. If the edges of the leaves are puckered up, then raise the light some and if it goes away in a couple hours that was it. Try using a oscillating fan to blow air between the lights and the plant canopy. This will help a lot! Peace!

Sorry about the late response. Hmm... Alright so I took a look at her today, so I think can say that the middle growth is affected and not the very top growth or the bottom. I was reading around and found that it might be a copper deficiency. Looks like its getting worse. The affected growth, the leaves are very shriveled and skinny. But it's hard to say it does look like heat stress as well. They are being waters about every 2-3 days. (I will post a pic shortly.)

I transplanted on week 4-5. Its about 9.5 Weeks old now. No I am not using any nutes since I am using miracle grow at the moment.

    Thanks man

Thank you, the fan I have is pretty strong.

  13. hmm ok, ya i didnt notice the clear cups, thats kinda a no-no, cus obviously light would never touch the roots underground in nature.  Not sayin thats your problem, but never use clear cups its a given, i made the same mistake once.  You dont gotta transplant, u can just wrap some duct tape around the cup for a very easy fix.   You say u usin miricle grow i know its got time released nutes, but it could be a nute deficiency.  It really doesnt look like nute burn, and u say ur temp, humid, airflow, wtc are all fine, so really would have to point to nute deficiency.  That doesn't explain the problem from when it was young, but they could be unrelated.  If all those conditions are good u could try a VERY light dose of some nutes.  perhaps add 1 or 2 5000k or 6500k bulbs cus most people use a mix.  just ideas.  remember leaves dying and falling off the bottom is normal during flowering, when theyre used up they shrivel up and fall off, but that usually happens starting at the very bottom, that its happening in the middle is curious and conderning, the one u posted really don't look that bad, maybe a cloose pic of a damaged part/leaf?   whenever i got those problems i just give it a REAAALL good flush, maybe a couple in a few days, fixes most soil/nute problems.
