Hey all! I heard some talk in the Lounge about how we should put together a list of Acronyms that are used frequently in the Organics section.... so I decided to do it! Here is my (unfinished) list of common Acronyms. Feel free to post others I may have missed, and I will update the main post. Thanks all! I always forget YMMV! lol Youd think after lookin it up at least a dozen times i'd remember.. Good lookin out GTG! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIfOjkB17BA
IME- in my experience We don't use it here, but, SWIM-someone who isn't me. And i think there can be a couple definitions for acronyms. I always read FWIW as, "for whoever is wondering" and HTH as "hope that helps." Just a matter of semantics, since the general idea is there already.
tbh - to be honest Bc - bio char? Sounds good to me, lol I thought ROLS was recycled organic living soil. Probably doesn't really matter though.
VC- vermicompost [vermi]compost (refers to both thermophyllic compost and vermicompost) IMO 1-4 (Korean Natural Farming preparations)- Indigenous Microorganisms SA- Salicylic Acid JA- Jasmonic Acid CaCO3- Calcium Carbonate TLO- True Living Organic SOM- Soil Organic Matter pH- Potential Hydrogen BSF- Black Soldier Fly BSFL- " " " Larvae AZOMITE- A to Z Of Minerals Including Trace Elements LAB- Lactic Acid Bacteria DA- Dynamic Accumulator LOTR- Lord of the Rings (lol) NPK- Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium TMV- Tobacco Mosaic Virus
"I thought ROLS was recycled organic living soil" Fwiw, I believe that you're right. Good job GtG. I guess I had forgotten just how many acronyms there are. Good additions TJ (and others) J
lol I didn't originally want to include pH and NPK, as almost all gardeners already know them, and they run counter to our organic paradigm anyway lol.... but you're right, probably best to be thorough.... With VC and LAB..... I kinda want to only include acronyms that people use, to keep things simple.... I've never seen anyone use either of those..... VC is possible, but I dunno about LAB... have you ever seen it used? IMO is already up there as In My Opinion... do you think I should put "IMO 1-4" as an entry? Is it commonly used? I don't know much about Korean Natural Farming yet..... CaCO3 I don't want to include because it isn't really an acronym, and because it opens the door to every compound..... I'd have to put Nitrate and Ammonium and Aluminum Silicate, etc, etc lol If someone wants to know, they can just google CaCO3..... that's not so much true for things like SST, OM, FBM, DA, or BAS Azomite is a product name, not really an acronym (though they did draw the name from a sort of acronym). I guess I did include Sul-Po-Mag.... maybe I should delete both? I thought of Azomite..... I just felt like Azomite is understandable (or google-able) in its own right as a product name..... Sul-Po-Mag is langbeinite and doesn't have the product name recognition.... I dunno.... thoughts?
FFOF - Fox Farms Ocean Forest It's what the 'really big growers' use according to the tykes at the local hydro store...ThumbDick and his crew
You forgot OG? FTW should be for the cannabis consumer, "Free The Weed". Least ways in the circles I've run in. Keep up the good work!
Lol I just tried to think of as many acronyms as I could you don hafta keep em all. My post is #6 n it ain't goin anywhere anyway I figured that if you don't know the meaning of an acronym, you can look it up here, regardless of how common it is. Like SOM. Not super common, but if you ran into it, you might wonder what it is if you'd never heard of it. VC is the common vernacular on The Logical Gardener website and the Living Organic Soil website. An acronym from Tim I do believe. It might not be common on GC, but it is elsewhere and I use it sometimes... LAB is somewhat common, too. The Prokashi guy has a whole video on LAB. And here's a TLG thread on LAB (TLG- anudder one! ) https://logicalgardener.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=227&view=unread#unread IMO.. again might not be common on GC, but it is elsewhere. The first time I saw it, it was mentioned on Waterproof's journal. Sweet journal, btw-- check it out! http://forum.grasscity.com/organic-grow-journals/1228044-hawaiian-danktuary-gage-green-cherry-puff-grape-puff-bodhi-more.html/page-3 Prokashi dude has a series of videos on IMO too. I think it is pretty popular in Hawaii... @[member="Skyclad808"] ? I think CaCO3 is used often enough to warrant an entry mentioned much more often than NH4 sure you can google it.. but can't I google all this stuff? Yee azomite is kind of a goofy one. I thought it was cool when I found out what it stood for, though.
lol to be honest, I thought you were joking about OG lol maybe it's the mental image I have of you, I honestly thought you were bein funny lol Free the Weed? hmmm..... never heard that used.... but I'll throw it in there lol That's a good point I suppose.... I was trying to keep it simple, but perhaps it is more useful if it is comprehensive, not simple. I don't think you can google a lot of this stuff..... I just googled BAS and "Basic Allowance for Subsistance" is the only result. I tried LOS and there was nothing.... Abbreviations.com had like 30 results for LOS and 'living organic soil' was not one of them. If you google ACT, you get American College Testing.... Abbreviations.com has 105 results for ACT, and none of them are Aerated Compost Tea. I have a feeling there a bunches more like that (DE, FBM, BIM, etc). That said.... I think I'm coming around to your point of view.... comprehensive is probably better....
FTW - Free The Weed is, I believe, attributed to John Sinclair of Ann Arbor, MI. It is in John's honor that the annual Hash Bash in Ann Arbor is held. He writes a monthly column in a local MI culture mag. When I was in the army and I'm sure in certain circles today it refers to "Fuck The World". So, I dunno. OG Original Gangsta has it's roots in CA gang and drug culture. "If it's got OG Kush genetics it's some bad assed shit man". Or sumpin like that. Mental images of anonymous posters never work out lol. I'm about as nondescript as they come bruddah. I am the Chameleon lol. For real
It's only because I grew up (a good portion of my childhood) in Kentucky and "Kentuckiana" that I came up with a mental image of you lol.... we frequented Lexington-area often....
