So, I have a family physician that I regularly go to in Michigan, more specificaly the metro Detrot area.

My story if you choose to read it.
I usually get sick a lot (probably once a month), I have chronic pain in my lower back, my fingers and my shoulders/neck, and I also sleep 6 hours a day and stay up for 18 hours (trouble sleeping, waking up multiple times, assuming I have insomnia.).  I couldn't let myself take all these pills to treat everything so I decided to try multivitamins which helped my getting sick a lot, but didn't really help my chronic pain everywhere on my body or my sleeping issue...so I decided to try marijuana because of all the benefits I heard of.  And let me tell you, I feel great.  My lower back pain permenantly went away (I had that bitch practically every day for 4 years!), my fingers are still a bit achy but definitely better, and my shoulders/neck feels a lot less tense.
    ---------------
Now I want to go to my family physician (I'm over the age of 18) and ask him.  But how do I go about this?  Can any doctor in Michigan recommend/prescribe marijuana as long as I am qualified?  I have went to my doctor before about my chronic back pain, and he told me to stretch regularly in the morning every day, helped a little but didn't really completely solve the problem.  If he was willing to go along with it, do I show him any forms to sign?  Basically, how do I go about this?
Also, I know this might sound funny, but how easy would it be to hide this from my parents as long as I have access to the mail?

On a side note, If I go in, say 3 times to check out my chronic pains, and the 4th time I say "I want medical marijuana to treat me because it works out for me."  Will my insurance cover me or will it cover the 3 visits?  I read somewhere about medical marijuana visits not being covered or something, is that true?  Or is that just for consultation?

  3. Your family physician can recommend MMJ, but many traditional doctors won't. If your doctor gives you the recommendation, it will have no effect upon your medical privacy rights so your medical records will remain private. Regarding insurance, you're correct that it will not cover the recommendation appointment or the MMJ. I don't know whether it could, but it seems unlikely that the insurance company would, try to collect for the three appointments prior to the one at which you obtained the rec.
