Is This Racism On Either Side?

  1. There is a little debate going on here in nz because we have a lot of separate policies and preferential systems for people in this country with indigenous heritage. There are seats in parliament that have to be filled by indigenous Maori people. They were only intended as a start to get Maori into the political system but they've stayed for over 100 years now.

    One man called Jamie Whyte says his party won't work with the Maori race based parties known as Maori and Mana. Here are his views;

"the principle that the law should be impartial has never been fully embraced in New Zealand".
"race-based favouritism is doing Maori no real good"
"the idea that Maori need lower hurdles is insulting"

He has immediately been branded a racist by Maori party member Te Ururoa Flavell.

    Here's what he had to say;

Mr Flavell said Dr Whyte is vying for the "redneck sector of the voting community", and there is "no doubt that there is an element of racism in those comments".

"I mean there's no place for it, it's divisive and has no place in the politics of our country"

What do you think of this situation?

  2. Not racist in my opinion.

A minority should not have special privileges to the point of reverse discrimination.

In the USA we call it Affirmative Action, a good idea in theory but gets taken way too far.

  3. I think discrimination is a better fit than racism.

its called pandering to your target demographic.

edit: (the policy itself is discriminatory i spose, but is it sort of a heres 2 maori seats out of 80 deal?)

  5. hmm, I guess it's inappropriate, tbh I don't know the native to non native population. As for the mentioned guy, yep he's a douche and probably is racist. Look at the way he goes about making his arguments.

7 out of 70. But there are many other members who identify as Maori within the other parties. There isn't any bias stopping Maori from representing other parties. I think the idea that's been floating around a little while now is that treating people like they need that extra help is limiting in itself. There are constant accusations of over representation of Maori in prison systems, which has been blamed on a racist justice system. The concept seemingly implied is that we must make all statistics even between European and Maori regardless of whether they legitimately are. Their beef is selectively with the English, but essentially anyone white skinned is considered the anti population. Pacific and Asian communities make up significant portions of our population and they aren't given any special thought.

  7.
its just how the world works. id be surprised if its largely different everywhere.

beats the hell outa being a hutu in a rawandan "prison" though.

  8. adversity breeds advancement.

If you just give everyone fish, they'll remain dependent on gifted fish, instead of learning how to catch their own.

Although i think they should continue to keep an eye on things, to make sure the minority is protected from the will of the majority.

I don't think Whyte (lol) was being racist. I think he was being respectful by viewing them as equals, and therefore not in need of special considerations, or "lower hurdles" as he called it.

But who knows. Maybe things are completely unfair for the Maori, and perhaps they need a golf-style handicap in order to get by?

  9. Very racist indeed on both sides

¡satan has tricked the world into thinking he does not exist!

  10. Sounds like he's the only one who isn't racist. Affirmative action is racist as fuck.

  11. No.

Only the inferior require a handicap (lower hurdles).

He is being un-racist, by viewing them as equally capable of overcoming the same hurdles as everyone else.

Those demanding lower hurdles for a specific race, are the ones "being racist." Unless of course they are actually inferior... in which case, they should have special provisions. But that was the point: he doesn't think they're inferior at all. That's the definition of not being racist. lol.

  12. No surprise, they do the same thing in our country. Predominantly black neighborhoods are all controlled by race-baiting democrats who do nothing for their electorate. Highest spending per capita yet their schools and neighborhoods resemble that of some war-torn third world country. In perpetuity.

Here is Jesse Jackson wondering why more black people aren't intellectual giants in the tech industry: http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2014/07/28/jesse-jackson-seeks-eeoc-scrutiny-of-tech-industry/13270991/

His reasoning: because white people won't hire them. [IMG] ... google "cargo cult" if you want a glimpse into the African mentality. Smart people are smart because they went to good schools, not because they're intellectually gifted. Everything you have was gained through the exploitation of poor people, not because you earned it. You didn't build that, How dare you employ people in any fashion that doesn't represent their percentage of the total population?

None are more inferior than those who insist on being equal.

  13. The only thing racist about the policy is its advocacy. A quota for any race in parliament is absurd.

  14. Racism is simple, I don't condone it but it's simple. Everyone is born with different looks. Some more than others. If you're not used to how other people look then they WILL make you uncomfortable unless u get to know them. Result? Racism. I'm 23 and it took me a year to look past the bullshit that is racism when I saw how a group of white people were making fun of a group whiter people (pale). I basically figured out that everything I knew about race was bullshit.

  15. Maori should pay reparations to the animals they extincted

  16.
Were you a pro-white racist before this life-changing experience?

  17. :\\  Nice.

  18. if anything the dude seems to be viewing them as equals by expecting more than others seem to think the Maoris are capable of, lel

  19. Uruora flavell is the fucking Al Sharpton of oceania.

  20. I'm just wondering what the difference is between then and now, and how that single in-group conflict invalidates the concept of group loyalty. Of course, if you can't address the issue feel free to make another useless comment.
