Hello fellow MJ enthusiasts! I am a complete noob to the growing-scene, and have just set up my indoor grow-tent for my first upcoming grow (seeds are currently germinating in moist cotton wool in a dark room in my place). I know that my ventilation set-up isn't exactly aesthetically-pleasing (what with the fan hanging a bit crooked, etc.), but I hope that it is correctly mounted nonetheless. I am basically looking for any recommendations you might have, regarding the set-up, things to make sure I do/avoid, etc. Any constructive feedback will be MUCH appreciated; I thank any contributor very much (in advance)! That's a pretty solid set up man, I wish more beginners would set up a nice simple and tidy system like this. It would save them a lot of arse ache. You will need to get bigger pots at some point but it looks like you have everything good
Gonna need an MH bulb for veg, that HPS won't do anything for you until you switch to flower. Well...it will....but you won't like the results if you grow with an HPS the entire time
I would probably hang the flouros above the plants for the first 3 or 4 weeks and then change to the HPS instead of running them both at the same time, but certainly nothing wrong doing it your way. I would also just sow the seeds straight in the soil so they are ready to go as soon as they hatch, but your way will work too
If you do as GoldGrower said above, use the fluros for veg, that's fine....but the bulbs that come with the ones you linked aren't, they are 2700k and that would just mimic the light temperature of the HPS, which is yellow representing fall. You would need fluros that are 6500k which represents a bright white/blue which is daytime light, used for veg growth. Otherwise, you might as just well run the HPS if you are going to veg with those 55w fluros.... Your setup is fine, you just don't have a veg lighting solution (yet)
I agree with the germinating/planting directly into soil. It's always worked 100% for me (knocks on wood). Not a fan of handling these delicate seeds/roots Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Is that a switchable ballast you have? Meaning...it operates both MH and HPS. * edit: I just looked up Luxgear 400w ballasts and they are switchable
