My First Homemade Edible (A Nutella-Like Spread + Avb)

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by orbweaver, Jul 29, 2014.

  1. This is what I used:

About 8 oz of Trader Joe's Cocoa Almond spread

5 teaspoons of AVB (a mix of dark, light, and gold; one teaspoon made me hate life for about 32 hours)

    A microwave

A clean glass 12 oz jar

    ***

Following some instructions I found from a few of the threads here, I melted the spread in the microwave (in a coffee mug). I stirred in the AVB, stirred it up really well, let it cool a little, heated it again for about 30 more seconds, let it cool some more and stirred it up again, and then heated it again. I stirred again to make sure all AVB was distributed throughout the cup of melted spread. Then all of this concoction was transferred to a jar. I licked the spoon, of course. I'll tell you how I feel later. I feel it creeping up a bit :)

About a week ago, I made the mistake of eating a whole teaspoon of my AVB mixed with a tablespoon of peanut butter (cold, not heated) on an empty stomach. I was way way way too stoned from this and quite unhappy (even feeling ill). I had better results with a smaller amount of AVB.

Taste: not bad! The spread really masks the taste and texture of the AVB.

So I am trying to figure out how much of this concoction to use. Like... my math is bad here, 5 teaspoons in 8 oz of spread, average dose 1/2 teaspoon of the avb, == ?????

  2. How much does your 5 teaspoons weigh out to?

  3. I have no idea. This is not based on any specific standardized way to handle/measure my weed, it was based on "my average dose" (since I'm the only person using it) which I trial-and-errored to be about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon.

  4. I'm really pleased with how smooth it turned out. I can taste a bit of the weed in the spread but I'm okay with that, it has a nice balance with the spread's extreme sweetness. It'll make nice hot cocoa once I figure out how much of a dose to use...?

I licked the spoon - I feel it creeping up about 45 minutes later, just a little. Based on previous experience, I should know by about midnight how far this is going to take me.

Every oz will have slightly more then 1/2 teaspoon. I would eat an oz. you can always eat more. Impossible to un eat it.

    Happy Mediables

  6. 1 1/2 hour in - high is *not* cerebral. I don't have weird thoughts, just pleasantly mellow and relaxed. Happy feelings though, and I find things funny. Body feelings are relaxed. Muscles are very relaxed. Little bit couch locked but I can get up and move around if I put my mind to it.

Positive emotions and physical feelings are enhanced. It's a good feeling high. Enjoying this.

Curiously - I do not at ALL feel cerebrally affected. Normally I think hyper-creative, odd, or surreal thoughts and have vivid mental pictures when I'm high. Mentally, I feel totally normal. This is completely centered in my body and emotions.

  7. 2 hours in. DANG. This is WAY more than the sum of its parts. I estimate that I took a half dose (half teaspoon) and I am FEELING it.

It worked out very well. It was an interesting "high" that I've never had before. Much, much more "body" than I'm used to, except for the rare time I've smoked high-CBD stuff. I liked how long the peak was. It was the first time I actually liked the effects of an edible. I also liked how little I had to take compared to how little weed I used. This is totally going to be a money saver.

It'll be good for my daily medical use, until I run out of AVB. I'm thinking it'd be a nice relaxing nightcap. Maybe hot chocolate made with the stuff, add a little Bailey's for flavor.

Think I have a new method of administration. I may start cooking more of my weed into things... going to experiment with making canna-oil with the gram of Larry OG that I have, and then infusing that into another jar of nutella.

It worked out great two nights in a row! New favorite way to medicate (trying to get away from smoking). It ended up being more than the some of its parts. The heating the avb in the Nutella analog, adding a few teaspoons of vegetable oil as well, and reheating a few times. One teaspoon out of a 12 oz jar gets me as wrecked as a half teaspoon of straight raw avb (taken with a tablespoon of peanut butter) did. It feels so much better than any ready made edible I've ever used. Hard to describe. This feels like there's more of a balance with the cbd and it's just so much more effective than other stuff I've used. It even is working better than smoking it was. Hard to explain how it feels... smoother somehow? It's like maybe I'm getting more of the other cannabinoids and so this is just a much more balanced sensation? I didn't feel "wrecked". I just felt *good*, anxiety lessened, relaxed, slightly euphoric, with minimal mental stuff. It reminded me of the high-CBD stuff I smoked in Oregon. Relaxed and out of pain but still able to hold a normal conversation, read a book, etc. I feel like using it this way gives me a way to compartmentalize my medical use from my recreational use.

I have a new convert in my mother (also a medical user), too. She tried some last night. She was reluctant to take as much as she needed because she didn't want to smoke (but doesn't own a vaporizer). Now she is going to take a spoon of the Magic Nutella every night.

I'm going to experiment in the next day or so with cooking up a second batch with the gram of Larry OG that mom is volunteering to the cause. This will be a little different; I will be making canna-oil and using that to make the Magic Nutella. I will filter some of it and use that, and also make a batch that is unfiltered, and compare the results.

My next experiment after this will be to try Magic Nutella hot chocolate with a shot of Bailey's, as a treat.

I like the Nutella-like spread as a carrier with this kind of an edible because as Nutella and similar spreads are a thick paste and not a gooey oil, it's just so much easier to meter a dose (I know mine is a teaspoon, for example), and I have a better idea of how to control it than I would if I were dividing a cookie.

  10. Trying my standard dose in a cup of hot cocoa. Let's see how this goes.

Going to make some more in the next 2 days, this time with decarbed fresh powdered herb cooked into coconut oil, and actual Nutella brand spread.

I'll make 2 batches - one with the plant matter filtered out, one with it left in - and compare notes.

This has been my favorite way to medicate, ever. My mom (who also has a med card) uses the spread every night for her sciatica pain and we both find that the dosing is really easy (with this last batch made with AVB, average dose = one teaspoon). It's a thick and sticky enough paste to make dosing on a spoon relatively easy.

Ok, made a new batch last night with 2g of really dank Black Domina buds, a few tablespoons coconut oil, a tablespoon lecithin - decarbed the weed and then cooked it in the oven at 325, with the oil and lecithin, for half an hour. As my magic bullet blender ground the weed up superfine, I did not bother filtering.

I mixed all of that with about 8oz of the Nutella-like spread. I can't at all taste the weed in the spread.

Not sure how much I took while cooking but I was freaking wasted when it kicked in. Still guessing average dose is a teaspoon, so I will see how that goes.

I took some of this stuff today in preparation for my deep tissue massage appointment (I have nerve pain and have to be high to even get worked on). Took a teaspoon and a half at 930 (an hour after a small meal), it kicked in at 1030 (almost all at once), and as of now (12:23pm) I'm still feeling the "climb". It leveled out at one point and started climbing again.

I just ate two Taco Bell taco supremes and drank half of a small pepsi. Thought I'd feel less high but actually feeling more.

It should plateau soon. I'm going to say that this batch is much stronger than the other and I'd guess that the normal dose for me would be half a teaspoon to a level teaspoon. Not as much as I took.

The taste is GREAT. The finished product, after refrigerating overnight, has the texture of fudge. There's a little bit of weed smell but the taste is more chocolatey than weedey, with virtually no aftertaste.

  14.  Did you strain out the ABV bud? I use a cheese cloth to strain my butters and oils.  I dont waste anything PLUS i don't eat the grinds and the cheese cloth just goes right into the wash

  15.
I will be doing that next time I use ABV. This time, I didn't. The second batch (which used decarbed bud, not ABV), I didn't.

I do notice a medicinal difference between strained bud oil products vs whole bud, so if I'm not using ABV, I'll probably just use whole bud and not strain it. Anyway, my Magic Bullet grinds the bud up incredibly, incredibly fine. Didn't notice a significant taste/texture problem with the second batch (which used fresh [cured] bud, not ABV).

With the ABV though, I'd just strain that next time. Dunno what value is left in it anyway, and it tastes like roasted ass.
