Alittle confused when talking about this subject being that most people will throw HPS in the equation. Living in a area where its not legal to do at all I'm looking for something with low energy,less heat. but give me a nice yeild to be happy with in small Closet grow . CFL's are a great way to go. Che and cost effective. They don't get too hot which is great if Your doing it in a small space. Try to get around 600w at least 400w. A lot of people don't like cfl's but cfl's can get very close to HPS or MH buds with the right set up. Remember cfl's can be around 6inchs to the plant, this is important in early atages so Your plants do not stress.
Hey Coco, I think either a decent LED unit or a couple of CFL's should produce a reasonable yield for a closet grow (not quite as high as HPS of course, but sure you already know that). So I guess it's a toss up between initial costs over energy savings and heat emissions. A good quality LED will naturally set you back quite a bit more than a couple of say 125w CFL'S, but will produce slightly less heat and be a little cheaper to run, although 2-3 CFL's wouldn't cost a great deal either, and plus you then have the added bonus of being able to position the lights in such a way to ensure maximum exposure to the bud sites..... I would probably go with 2-3 125w CFL's personally, depending on the size of the closet.
