Sick Seedlings?

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by Plan_G_Grow, Jul 27, 2014.

  1. Okay so I have two plants and they were both germinated with the same towel and sprouted at the same time, 2 out of 5 seeds. :/ and they were fine till they just started sprouting the 3 blade leaves, one has yellowing tips and the other has purple spots growing under the leaves..that same plant had the bear claw leaves but that seemed to have clear up.

    -random seeds

    -vigoro dark earth soil.

    -pure life bottled water 500ml

    -no nutes yet...

    Any help?

  2. What happed to the seedling mix, ....? stay sharp with your temps too, red accumulation in the stem and leaves is a cool shock to any plant

  3. There shouldn't be anything wrong, it's in the house and I've only had the bag for about 3 months tops. Stems are fine, haven't seen any red..just a little purple when branching off to the leaves

  4. Does the bottled water contain sodium?

  5. Typical Values\t(mg/l)
    Calcium\t29.0
    Magnesium\t10.5
    Potassium\t3.8
    Sodium\t40.4
    Bicarbonate\t233
    Chloride\t7.4
    Sulphate\t5.7
    Dry reside at 180C\t195
    pH at source\t7.8

That's what's in the water bottles I've been giving them...

Umm in my experience with accidently using bottled water with sodium in it ( didn't know better ) I almost lost a few plants. I am no pro but I think your water could possibly cause a lot of your problem.
Ideal ph for soil grow is 6.5 give or take a couple points.

  7. That ph level is too high

  8. Oh god. Never use 'natural spring' water. If necessary get distilled. Like $1/gallon at walmart.

Here's the plants. One on the left yellowing bottom leafs. One on the right clawed leaf tips and purple under leaf

    The purple under the leafs...

Got those facts from the internet, the actual bottle says.

    Calories 0%
    Fat 0%
    Sodium 25mg 1%
    Carbohydrate/glucides 0g 0%
    Protein/protéines 0 g
    Calcuim / 4%

I don't know if this matters but ingredients are spring water and ozone the minéraux 552 PPM iron fluorure 0,4 PPM

  11. And uh what water would you suggest instead? Brand? I'm not sure a Walmart here dispenses water...but there's a local store that sells jugs.

  12. Walmart has distilled bottled water in the pop and chip aisles, you want no ingredients in your water =). That sodium is rough on plants, the calcium is likely also an issue. I prefer rain water myself. Other than when I almost killed a couple plants I would only use bottled spring water for drinking yourself. Your actual tap water provided by your town is likely good enough. Just let it sit for 48 hours uncovered to evap impurities before using. In theory you could also do this with your bottled water, seems pretty wasteful but to each their own =). Good luck and keep smiling!

  13. I'm not sure if the tap water I have is good, got diarrhea from it lol....but I guess I cooooould give it to my plants

  14. Sink water is fine...get a decent ph up and ph down kit and fix it manually.

  15. Hey, do you think Glacéau smart water would be any help? ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1406685748.865916.jpg ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1406685769.516916.jpg

  16. Most likely not....bottled water isn't typically the way to go. Especially right out of the bottle. I'd recommend buying the cheap gallon water. Could you take a pic of your PH solution?

"It ain't going to grow itself"

  17. I didn't purchase a ph kit yet, sorry lol
But I'm guna need this fixed soon, the bottom leaves are done for and it's spreading to the upper leaves. ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1406689635.366109.jpg ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1406689651.929414.jpg

  19. It's a hard lesson to learn, but know when someone says "distilled" and they push the hell out of it, it's because they either know better, or have already been there.

Now you are better informed of how absolutely crucial the water you're using is on your plants.

As you were instructed previously, filtered rain works... I wouldn't recommend your tap, sounds like a health hazard.
