Can blue LED light be safely used during flowering without interupting the flowering cycle?

Have seen this mentioned here and there.  Thought it deserves it's own thread to:
    1.  Validate.
    2.  Snuff out if a myth.

As more and more people are using LED grow light,  would like to know if anybody has done this, or is willing to try this.

    General Theory:

Flowering is controlled by a Phytochome, ground state Pr.   Pr + red light(640-670nm) = Pfr....plant knowns it is under light.

Prf + far red(705-740nm) = Pr....plant thinks it is dark out.
Pfr will also convert back to Pr naturally over time, in darkness
When plant has majority of time in Pfr state, plant remains in veg stage.  When majority of time in Pr state..plant changes and stays in flower stage.

Notice this is ALL controlled by red and far red light?

Some people have claimed that blue LEDs can safely be used during flowering.  From theory...this looks to be true.

With HPS and MH this was not possible.  With LEDs, it is possible.
If this is true, it can be a HUGE advance in indoor cultivation for everybody, including HID users.   Adding blue light during "off" cycle could improve bud density and weight without adding huge amounts of heat and electricity use.

So I ask....Has anybody done this successfully?   Is anybody willing to try this?

Please be polite and open minded.

  2. My leds have red blue mix and my plants are fine so i dont see an issue with blue light in flower from led or hid just red light promotes flower and blue premotes growth

Cloraphyll is more.responsive to blue light than red but red is needed for a good healthy flower as in autum when they flower the sun is lowering the sky producing more a red light.

Tho bever tried a full blue led for flower :)

  3. You should have at least a 4:1 or 5:1 ratio of red to blue in flowering. Most of the red LEDs I have seen are lower Amp rating than the blues so the intensity is less. I built my own 4' x 2' array.

  4. I use several all blue light sources (440-460 nm) simply to control phototropism and to (in my humble opinion) add density to individual nugs. I find that blue light relieves stress in cannabis as well. a lot of the LED systems on the market run such a high percentage of reds/far reds that they forget how much stress this causes ANY living thing.

  5. I agree with stoned turtle . My led lights run with 33% blue during flower cycle. Makes for denser buds & healthier plants .

  6. Yep , that's the way to flower . I use LED s for all phases of grow !

  7. Im running a 400watt mh an have been wrondering about leds so I orderd 2 small led bulbs blue an red I hope it helps b for I just get a 300 watt led any advice would b helpfull

  8. Nobody I know who's growing for weight grows with Led's except as a very small suppliment of light.

  9. I get bwtter weights and quality with led than hid 1gpw with hid 1.1-1.2gpw with led thats with autos im gonna do photos soon

  11. Did I miss something? It seems that every responder so far hasn't seen your question.

You're talking about flowering with 24 hours of nonstop light, right? Running pure blue at night for continuous photosynthesis and switching to a primarily red spectrum for 12 hours? I'm really sorry I don't have an answer for you, wish I did but maybe the next person who sees this thread won't think your just talking about a blended light spectrum. Good luck, pm me if you ever try this. I'll keep it in mind for a future project... I may have some extra space in the coming year.

  12. Sorry but if above is correct the no ypu cannot use blue light on 24 cycle and 12 for red the plant still responds to light tje infared helps it respond quicker as dawn and dusk ir is higher its said to.be possible to get a plant to flower on 13-14/10 using ir
But plants will still respond to loght with
    Blues :)

  13. Loki125, those look pretty nice.  Are you stripping most of the fan leaves off during flower?  If so, at what time?

    Good looking nugs my man...
